From 2015 -2020, Gale McCray became known around the country as The Old Man with the Sign.

The sign read simply, "Trump: That Boy Don’t Act Right." McCray encountered Americans of all political persuasions on his four-year odyssey around the country.

This piece chronicles his journey, the people he met, the journalists who interviewed him, and the reactions to his five-year protest.

Two shows only, Tuesday and Wednesday September 10-11 at 8:00 PM. Tickets $15, on sale now at hydeparktheatre.org

Hyde Park Theatre presents

My Seasons with the Astros, Expos, Phillies
Written and Performed by Ken Webster

August 29 - September 14, 2024
Thursdays-Saturdays at 8:00 PM

HPT's Producing Artistic Director Ken Webster delves back into his strange obsession with former major league catcher John Bateman. Webster's Twitter feed started as a diary of the 1966 Houston Astros season as seen through the eyes of Webster's favorite player from childhood, the late John Bateman. The diary--part fact and part fiction, part baseball and part history and popular culture--has been featured in several stories by sportswriters. All proceeds benefit HPT.

Webster describes how he became an amateur historian, chronicling his favorite player and the years 1966-1972 in a Twitter feed now followed by Bateman's wife, Freda, his two daughters, Keith Olbermann, and baseball fans throughout the U.S., Canada, and Venezuela.
This was the first live play HPT mounted after the pandemic began in November 2021. The Austin Chronicle wrote, "The production's low-budget simplicity focuses all attention on Webster's truly engaging performance, penchant for passionate and often improvisational storytelling." https://www.austinchronicle.com/arts/2021-11-19/review-hyde-park-theatres-my-season-with-the-astros-expos-and-phillies/ They later named it "One of 2021's Top 10 Arts Stories You Cared About the Most.” https://www.austinchronicle.com/arts/2021-12-17/top-10-arts-stories-you-cared-about-the-most/print/
My Seasons with the Astros, Expos, and Phillies plays at 8:00pm Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays August 29 through September 14. Tickets range from $28-$23 and every Thursday is "Pay What You Can" at the door. All proceeds benefit HPT. Purchase tickets at hydeparktheatre.org or call 512-479-PLAY (7529) for reservations.
