So many thoughts swirling around in my head. So many comments are being launched online about the US presidential campaign developments.

Learn some vocab and history ...
Diversity (what it is and how it has been bent to perpetuate white supremacy culture and its ideals)
Justice (what it is and how white supremacy culture prevents it)
Neocolonialism (what it is and how it is perpetuated to uphold white supremacy culture)
Misogynoir (what it is and how people participate in it to uphold white supremacy culture)
Two-party political system ( you guessed it!)

07/22/2024

If you are struggling to understand why this is true, let's discuss in the comments!

About Body Reborn:
Body Reborn provides a virtual, intersectional community for those who struggle with disordered eating and have faced systemic barriers due to race (e.g. those that originate for people of color). Read on to learn more, and click the link in bio to sign up!

Over the course of 8 weeks, the group engages in education and live discussion around systemic oppression, trauma, and their effects on our relationship with food/body. The group will discuss the intersection of body image, systemic bias, oppression, and other potentially challenging topics in a carefully facilitated, supportive space. While we aim for safety, complete trigger avoidance cannot be guaranteed.

You may gain the most benefit from the space if you (a) are already engaging, comfortably, in these reflections individually; and/or (b) are comfortable in your outpatient care level.

Space is limited. Therefore, we ask that you please complete the application thoughtfully and authentically as possible.

Did you know that hunger can be a deliberate act of oppression? 🚨

Structural violence shapes our world in ways we often don't see, and one of its most devastating forms is induced starvation—a weapon of structural racism that leaves lasting scars on communities.

This carousel unveils the harsh realities of how systemic inequalities manifest in food insecurity and the deliberate use of starvation to oppress and control marginalized populations. 🌍✊

Swipe through to understand the depth of this issue, its historical context, and the urgent need for systemic change. But awareness is just the first step. We must act to dismantle the structures that perpetuate this violence. 🚀

Today is cloudy and rainy in the ATX and looking out the window, enjoying the sound of thunder and falling rain I couldn't help but notice the sun still managed to send some light through all of the obstacles. That's the nature of the sun.

In a world that often shouts about who we should be, there’s immense power in listening to the gentle whisper of our own intuition.

🌟 Your inner voice knows the melody of your soul; trust it, follow it, and let it lead you to places only you can go. As you do, your unique light will not only guide you but also light the way for others lost in the dark.

💫 Let’s make a pact today: to trust our inner wisdom, to embrace our authentic selves, and to shine brightly without dimming for anyone. Because when we shine unapologetically, we give others permission to do the same.

Ryan Gainer should still be alive

As a mother of a Black child with neuro diversity and may very well struggle to articulate herself or "comply" or process a situation fast enough this is terrifying and heartbreaking.

What do I expect? From the state, not much. What is one not Black or brown body, even of a child?

I can't even process my thoughts over the deafening silence of so-called Allies and activists...😢

with Still processing every emotion with this one. Especially heart wrenching because apparently it’s not “trendy” to fight for Black lives anymore. So back to killing us with impunity and silence from the masses. I’m numb.

with I know, I know. This feels like another person gatekeeping what you can and can’t say. Not my intention. In fact, my intention is to bring attention to the IMPACT of this comment for people who are struggling with an eating disorder or are in the process of recovery.

Most often this is said with the outmost kindness and care. A rational brain can see this and tolerate it. A sick brain cannot.

“You look healthy” to someone struggling with an eating disorder or in the recovery process (Aka STILL STRUGGLING WITH AN EATING DISORDER) most often hears this as “you’ve gained weight. I can see you’ve gained weight.” Also it can come across as “you must be better now and no longer struggling.” The reality is that weight restoration can be part of the recovery process (depending on presentation) and it doesn’t speak to the PSYCHOLOGICAL RECOVERY.

Eating disorders may or may not manifest as weight loss/weight gain. Weight doesn’t inform us of HOW someone is doing or how sick they are. Commenting on how someone looks also misses the mark on the internal, psychological struggle that is an eating disorder.

Also let’s remember health just isn’t a look. That probably needs a post of its own but we can’t tell someone’s health status by looking at them. Full stop.

Consider shifting to:
“It’s so good to see you”
“I’ve missed you!”
“I love seeing you smile”
“How are you?”

Focus on addressing the whole human and not their appearance or how they “look”

*there are 9000 more things I could say on this topic so please be mindful of the limitations of addressing the complexity of this in an IG post. This post is for informational and educational purposes only*

A great carousel from .binge.dietitian. not only dieters binge so swipe and learn!
.binge.dietitian with Finding yourself caught in the cycle of binge eating can be tough. 💔⁣
Exploring and understanding the reasons why, can be a gentle way to understand and begin your journey towards stopping those binge eating cycles.

These are some common reasons why I see women stuck with dieting and binge eating, though this is not an exhaustive list.

1️⃣ Diet Culture and Dieting
In a world obsessed with unrealistic body standards, thinness is wrongly linked to health and success.
This culture promotes restrictive diets, sidelining the diversity of body types and healthy living.

2️⃣Restricted food intake
Binge eating isn't limited to those dieting. Health issues or medications, like those related to ADHD, can lead to skipped meals or restricted intake, contributing to binge eating.

3️⃣Generational diet trauma
This can shape individuals who grow up in homes where foods are labelled as "good" or "bad," body weight is tied to self-worth, and restrictive eating is normalised. These learned behaviours can lead to disordered eating and a poor body image.

In my free masterclass next Wednesday, I'll delve deeper into these reasons and provide tips on breaking the binge eating cycles.

Body autonomy is a key complement of body liberation and we can all ensure that we are building the skills across the lifespan to encourage it!

with How to encourage body autonomy throughout life.

I didn’t realize until I was 26 years old that I NEVER had true autonomy over my body; whether it was because of societal messaging, others expectations, my perceived role as a woman etc.

We can teach our children to have a voice and choice about their bodies, and we can relearn for ourselves how to embrace our own autonomy.

We can stop playing the game. We do not owe our bodies to anyone but ourselves 💕
