Introducing the final sticker in our Info Bevo series, Human-Centered Data Science Bevo! This Bevo is working in what could encompass many of the roles that our iSchoolers fill after graduating from our programs. Students at the School of Information learn to categorize, synthesize, and steward large amounts of data, a service that is vital for any organization or business in the Information Age. The skills iSchoolers learn in data and information science help them to land work in many different industry sectors and provide vital information management services to organizations.

Help support the next generation of iSchool information and data scientists by making a contribution to the iSchool 75th anniversary student support fund today! You can receive one of any four of the info Bevo stickers as a thank you for your donation: https://hornraiser.utexas.edu/project/38401

Introducing the Archivist Info Bevo sticker! Archival and preservation studies go hand in hand with librarianship as one of the foundations of the school of information. Archivists at the school train to collect and preserve vital pieces of history and information. Record keeping truly makes the world go round and so much important information would be lost to history if it weren’t for the vital service of archival studies. Students at the school of information can take classes in the iSchool preservation lab in which they learn to preserve and care for damaged and aging materials.

Help to support the next generation of iSchoolers in archival sciences by making a contribution to the 75th anniversary student support fund today! Receive this sticker as your thank you and rep iSchool archival studies with pride! Click here to make your donation: https://hornraiser.utexas.edu/project/38401

Introducing the Librarian Info Bevo sticker! Library science is the foundation upon which our school and many other iSchools are established. Librarians are among the original keepers and stewards of information. Our iSchoolers that go into library science serve our communities by providing vital community development, literacy, and educational resources to many populations in need. School librarians play a vital role in addressing literacy gaps. State and local librarians help shape and create third spaces by establishing relationships with the communities they serve.

Help support the field of library science and the future generation of iSchool librarians by making a contribution to the 75th anniversary student support fund today! Introducing the UX Info Bevo sticker! This sticker features Bevo working as a UX designer, a field that many of our students go into after graduation. Much of the coursework and research at the iSchool centers around user experience design, human-technology interaction, and accessibility. Our students in UX go on to assist companies and organizations in creating user solutions that address human needs and accessibility concerns. You can thank a User Experience designer for many of the technology, products, and web interfaces that we interact with in our day to day lives!

We had a wonderful time visiting with our alumni and friends last week at the TLA conference in San Antonio! At the Texas Library Champions Celebration on Wednesday, several iSchoolers were honored including Dr. Loriene Roy, Dr. Virginia Bowden (1939-2022), and Dr. Barbara Immroth (1942-2021).
During the reception, our Bowden Professor of Librarianship, Dr. David Lankes, got the chance to meet the daughters of Dr. Virginia and Charles Bowden, who accepted Dr. Bowden’s award on her behalf.

On Thursday we hosted our iSchool TLA alumni reunion. We had a wonderful time connecting with both new and familiar faces. The evening was full of laughter, catching up with old friends, and plenty of delicious tacos and beverages!

If you missed the fun at TLA (or just want to see us again), we will be hosting round two at ALA in San Diego and would love to see you there. Stay tuned for more details to come! Thanks again to everyone who come out to make the evening such a success.

We hope our alumni had a great time at TLA this past week. See you again next year!

Happy Friday! We had multiple submissions this week. Our first photo was submitted by master's student Marshanah Taylor. "Over Spring Break, I had the pleasure of traveling to Washington, D.C. to visit the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture!" Marshanah said. "During my time there, I explored all of the amazing exhibits about Black history that the Smithsonian Institution has to offer. My favorite one was the 'Afrofuturism: A History of Black Futures' exhibit where I got to see the real costume — gifted to the museum by Marvel Studios and The Walt Disney Company — that the actor Chadwick Boseman dressed in while playing the character King T'Challa a.k.a. the Black Panther of Wakanda, the first superhero of African descent to appear in mainstream American comics. This memorable learning experience has been the most enriching part of my virtual internship and I'll always treasure the time I spent in the nation's capital."

Our next photo was submitted by Earl Huff Jr., Assistant Professor, who said, "Informatics undergraduate Saloni Sharma and I attended the annual meeting of the American Education Research Association (AERA), held in Philadelphia, PA. It is the largest conference for all education researchers, instructors, and professionals. Saloni presented her poster on a literature review on AI-based applications used in higher education." Assistant Professor Huff presented his work on challenges and solutions to accessible K-12 computing education for students with visual impairments as part of a structured poster session entitled "Moving Toward Just and Equitable Access to Computing Education."

Thanks for sharing, Marshanah and Earl!

It's Friday! This week we had multiple photo submissions.

Izzy Schloss, president of iDSA (iSchool Doctoral Students Association), said, "Last weekend, some of the idoc students got together to enjoy a picnic in Zilker park. It was full of kites, good food, and plenty of cute doggos!" Pictured are the group at the picnic and one of the group members, Li Shi and her husband, interacting with a dog.

Mick McQuaid, Associate Professor of Instruction, also submitted this photo. "I spent part of Spring Break in the Old Library of Trinity College, Dublin," he said. "The room pictured is called the Long Room and was the former home of the Book of Kells, which now has its own room where photography is prohibited. Most of the books, most of which have been in the room for over 400 years, have been removed for cleaning. Only the first two galleries (closest to the camera) are populated."

Thanks for sharing, Izzy and Mick!
