Only now, four days after returning home, am I able to enjoy uninterrupted sleep again. Kyle and Eryn were wise to remind us that the week would be physically and emotionally taxing, but I wouldn’t change anything and I’m ready to do it all over again.
Sunday May 5th, 2024, marked the seventh and final day of the dissection course hosted by The Jones Institute. Those of us who participated from day one were in awe of all the learning and discoveries, and though borderline exhausted, we would not stop. We would honor the gifts from the four teachers on the dissection tables by exploring and learning as much as time and energy would allow us.
Overall, this was my fifth dissection course, but only my second time working on unembalmed donors. My first experience in 2023 allowed me to interact with the different physiological systems in a way that’s simply impossible in embalmed bodies, and I very much looked forward to returning. But this did not mean I was impervious to the emotional and sensory barrage that accompanies the week. It’s the price we must pay for this knowledge.
I wasn’t alone, though. I was in the company of talented therapists of different backgrounds, some new and some seasoned, all bonding over this sacred experience, all united in respect and appreciation to the four donors—our silent teachers—for their priceless gifts. And we as a group had excellent guidance from Kyle Kusunose and Eryn Milian who not only led us through the complexities of our physiology, but also reminded us of the humanity of the moment—for both us the and the donors.
My immense gratitude to all my colleagues, The Jones Institute, Eryn, Kyle, and their assistants for not only putting together another extraordinary learning event, but also for taking it to a whole new level. I can’t wait to return in 2025.
It keeps getting better 😃@
And that's a wrap on Anatomy Dissection 2024!
First and foremost, we want to thank our donors for giving us the ultimate gift—one that will forever change us as humans and practitioners. Thank you to our students who continue to inspire us with their unrelenting passion and hunger for knowledge. And thank you, Kyle Kusunose and Eryn Milian, for providing yet another exceptional experience! Already looking forward to next year.
An impromptu partial group selfie as we prepared to start the last day of brain dissection to wrap up an amazing week of learning. The enthusiasm and joy were palpable as we all bonded in gratitude for this sacred experience and we were in a jocular mood. I’ll share more in the next few days.
The key to a remarkable partner dancing experience is understanding that we dance to the music, not the steps. While the steps connect us to musical structure, it is feeling the music what takes us to the ethereal flow and ecstasy we share with our dancing partner. The more we learn about the music, the better we dance. Counterstrain is similar. Anatomy, physiology, and technique are our steps but it’s the understanding of our scientific rationale and our palpatory skills as they interpret the signals from our bodies what makes our music and creates the flow of our treatment.
The significant evolution and growth of Fascial Counterstrain over the past few years has added hundreds of new treatment choices to our repertoire. For the advanced practitioner, this amounts to well over a thousand structures one must consider when administering therapy. This is what made the new Diagnostics class so powerful.
Brian guided us in to how to interpret the music of our bodies by spotting, identifying, and filtering the multitude expressions of the pain phenomenon so we can provide a more accurate, comfortable, efficient, and safer therapeutic experience.
As always, what made this incredible class even more remarkable, was the company and excitement of my fellow Counterstrain therapists, all hungry for this knowledge so we can continue serving better.
What an incredible time to be part of the Counterstrain community.
Who better Than Brian Tuckey and Kyle Kusunose to explain the fascinating world of Fascial Counterstrain?
Though the application and results of Counterstrain feel magical, there's plenty of scientific evidence to explain the behind-the-curtains.
Enjoy!
Without a doubt, these are the type of messages that fuel me to keep learning and improving. What an amazing time to be a Counterstrain therapist.
Everyone on my waitlist has been taken care of and the schedule has a more predictable rhythm.
That means I finally have the breathing room for new patients. Unlike the previous times, admissions will be open for a short period to avoid overwhelming my calendar.
2024 is off to an incredible start and I cannot wait to share the amazing news with you down the road.
Stay tuned.
Coach Izzy
It is that time of the year again. We have snow in the forecast, and we all know how disruptive that can get in our hilly surroundings.
This is the outlook for January 11 to the 14th. While I don't know how things will pan out, all I know is that I'm always on the side of safety. Depending on the conditions, I might be in my office or I might have to reschedule your session.
I'll keep you posted. Stay warm.
