Now that a couple of days have passed and we've had some time to fully accept what has happened to our neighboring antique store, The Great Amercian, we just want to express how truly sad and devastated we are. Scott had become a friend to us and that old building held many beautiful antiquities...but it held even more cherished memories and stories. There is a never ending supply of tales that building could tell. It is truly a loss for our city that this amazing building is destroyed. We will continue to miss Scott and the opportunity to pop in The Great American at will and talk with Scott and Patrick, while finding new things we'd never noticed before or longed to purchase. ❤️ We are still standing, thankfully due to the fast and skilled Bakersfield City and Kern County Fire Depts. It was a truly heart pounding experience. Thank you again to all the crews involved with keeping us safe and getting us up and operational the last few days (both fire depts, BPD and PG&E).
