IN THE NEWS: The Kern Community College District has appointed Primavera Monarrez as the Interim President of Porterville College.

Primavera Monarrez is a seasoned higher education professional with a distinguished twenty-year career in higher education encompassing both the two-year community college and four-year university landscapes. Her experience spans various roles, including administrator, manager, and area supervisor.

“I am honored to serve as Interim President of Porterville College,” said Ms. Monarrez. “I deeply respect PC’s legacy of excellence and unwavering dedication to student achievement. My experiences as a nontraditional student had a transformative impact on my life and launched my lifelong passion and dedication for the critical mission of higher education, specifically community colleges.”

Today Claudia Sheinbaum has been elected as Mexico's president, the first woman to hold the job. This monumental election is celebrated by Latina's across the world and especially at home in Kern County.

Adventist Health Bakersfield states: Dr. Rivera exemplifies a deep-seated dedication towards enhancing women's health across Kern County. Her areas of expertise include well woman exams, obstetrics, minimally invasive surgery, contraception, and menopause. We take pride in the fact that Dr. Rivera has been recognized as the Best OBGYN in the Bakersfield Californian’s Readers’ Choice Awards for 2024.

Thank you KC-Hispanic Chamber Commerce | for the work you do in our community and the empowerment of Latinas in Business and Leadership! We are proud to see one of our board members, Connie Perez-Andreesen highlighted today!

Connie Perez-Andreesen is a Certified Public Accountant who began her career with a regional firm based in Kern County as a staff accountant and rose through the ranks to become one of only two Latinas to make partner in the 40-year history of the firm. In the Spring of 2017 Ms. Perez became the Controller for the United Farm Workers of America (UFW), which actively champions legislative and regulatory reforms for farm workers. She was appointed by the UFW Executive Board as Chief Administrative Officer on December 20, 2018 and National Vice President in November 2020.

Connie Perez-Andreesen came from modest beginnings, living with her family at the Woodville Labor Camp, to achieving success as a partner in one of the most prestigious accountancy firms in California. Ms. Perez is a product of the Head Start Program. She graduated from Monache High School and Porterville College and thereafter moved to Bakersfield, where she attended Bakersfield College and California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB).

She continues to be involved with many non-profit organizations in the community. She currently serves as a Board Member for Latina Leaders of Kern County, CSUB Foundation Chair, Bakersfield College Foundation, member of the CSUB President’s Latinx Advisory Council and CAFWD (California Forward) board and Bakersfield Public Safety/Vital City Services Oversight Committee.
