Juneteenth- a day to commemorate Federal troops arriving in Galveston, Texas, to let the enslaved in the area know that they had been freed 2 1/2 years earlier when the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. We celebrate the joy and hope our ancestors felt that June 19, 1865. It is also a day for everyone to recommit themselves to closing the gap between our country’s ideals and the reality in which we live.
The white ceremony - a celebration marking our movement from one stage to the next. We are renewed, fortified, Umojafied. “A people connected to their culture will survive.” The BC team, the KCCD team, and the 🩷💚 team.
