I want to get back to talking about self care and self love more.

Here’s the thing. If that little tiny w**d can grow out of the spaces in the wood on my deck, you can do anything. That little jawn has zero nutrients getting to it and it’s thriving. Imagine what will happen when you love on yourself a little bit and how much you can thrive.

I don’t always have time for myself and in those moments I need to remember these tips too. Looking for the good, holding onto the good feelings instead of focusing on the fact that dishes are annoying and always needing to be done 😑😑

Making the small moments feel amazing by adding what little I can in the time given, like savoring a scent or giving my neck a little stretch to relax.

Life is what you make it and what you focus on. We all fall down stress traps but the magic comes in by how you handle that stress. Life keeps life’n and it always will until it’s not which means you’re dead. So lean into self love. Lean into gratitude. You literally don’t have a choice! Stress will make you sick.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you. And thank yourself for being interested in caring for yourself. Give yourself a hug. It’s not embarrassing or weird. We all need more hugs 🫶🏼

Want super bright highlights? Read on..

I know that a lot of ladies with highlights want them to be ashy, they don’t like seeing the gold or warmth. There’s a lot of layers to this so stick with me

True ash actually looks darker and dull than something a little more neutral or warm. That’s because the light travels through the ash vs bouncing off like it does with golden tones. So keep in mind, super ashy highlight have to settle and fade a little bit before they look bright.

Also, ash tones make some people look sick. As you can see with my client here, she has a lot of warmth to her skin tone. She naturally golden and glowy and her highlights really need to reflect that.

But she wants nice bright blonde! Enter into the conversation: neutral

Wtf does that even mean?? It’s exactly like you think. It’s not ashy, it’s not gold.. it’s smack in the middle. Perfectly balanced so it doesn’t look gold but it reflects the light so it looks bright 😍😍

So if you’ve been let down in the past when asking for ashy highlights, it might not be the stylist fault. Maybe it just isn’t for you! That’s my job to decipher 😆

Let’s talk summer hair goals 🫶🏼

After I chopped my hair off I did a couple chops on some other people 😝😝

This is my sister in laws bestie 🫶🏼 we were talking about how we both wanted to cut a lot of hair off, I just happened to beat her to it by a couple days lol

We cut about 13/14 inches in total!

So refreshing! Especially for the curly girls during the summer heat. It’s so nice not having it on your back while the sun is blazing down

Who else is ready for a big cut?!!

If you want to do a big cut but don’t want to deal with the frizz and curls, get a keratin treatment! It’ll take 2 seconds to style your hair and it will last.

When planning your wedding hair there are some details to pay attention to that will help you guide your stylist and make sure you are on the same page.

The curl type you like
- big and bouncy? Elongated and beachy? Hollywood waves?

How the hair should lay around your face
- do you like loose pieces down? Want softness but all of it back?

Are you adding in any details?
- clips like you see here, decorated Bobby pins/hair pins or combs with cute details

The main thing is to bring as many pictures as you can for reference because even if you don’t feel like you have a direction, we should be able to see a pattern somewhere of what you’re leaning towards!

And lastly, be open minded but don’t stray too far from your comfort zone. If you never wear your hair up, maybe your wedding day isn’t the one to try an updo. Or maybe it is since it’s different and elevated! Just make sure you feel confident 🧡

I am asked almost daily by women about their hair feeling thin. A lot of women say their hairline specifically looks super thin and dry.

When I saw this pic of Hailey Bieber I couldn’t wait to say something about it!! Can we all just take a look at that hairline?? You can see right through it!

It is normal.

Your hairline is always thinner and finer. It is always susceptible to dryness and damage because it’s much finer hair. This is not new and it’s not a big deal!

Does it get more dramatic beginning, during and post pregnancy? Yes!! Will it bounce back, most yes but some no.

The best advice I can give you is to be gentle with this hair.. and yourself 🫶🏼. It’s all good!

The only time to worry is if there is a legitimate bald spot. Like clean little spot right to the scalp. Then you’ll need to talk to your stylist and most likely a doctor.

A majority of you are totally fine, normal and perfectly beautiful 🧡

Do you want more dimension in your hair but you’re not looking to be lighter?

That’s what lowlights are for! Using a color that’s a shade or 2 (or more!) darker than your natural will help create that same pop within your hair without adding in blonder pieces.

In this example we upkeep some face framing lightness while mixing in the lowlights throughout the rest of the hair so there’s a lot of dimension happening without feeling super light.

Some people think it’s the best part about getting your hair done! Others.. not so much!

I do my best to make it cozy 🥰 I lay in that chair every now and then to make sure it’s in a good spot.
I play smooth, slow jazz these days and it just HITS once you shut your eyes lol

If you have greys coming in but you are not interested in blending with highlights AND you’re also not wanting to have that flat solid color look with harsh roots- this is for you

I always talk about blending with highlights but that is truly not for everyone.. and that’s ok! My covering greys technique is on brand with my dimensional style 😉

As you can see here there is a lot of dimension and some different tones going on. If you swipe you can see that’s exactly dependent on where her greys and natural dimension exists.

This was done with one all over color 🫢

This is still going to make the grow out a little softer than if we completely covered them perfectly with zero dimension, just a flat solid brown.

Only soft dimension over here 💯🙌🏼

Wedding trial tips

Wearing the same shade of your dress is a good idea to set the vibe. Not 100% necessary if it’s a hair only trial but again.. the vibe.

Bring everything you’ll be wearing such as jewelry or a veil ( a lot of people aren’t using veils anymore if you’re not loving that idea) so you can see the whole look and make sure it feels cohesive

Always come with clean, dry hair. Products are better these days and we don’t need you to have dirty hair

Having pictures for reference will always be a great idea. Even if it’s “I like these curls but this style” across a couple pics. Your stylist will be able to piece it together

Ps. You’ll see a lot of updos and formal styles on blonde hair out there. That’s because having dimension (more than one color weaved in) will give you the details of the curls and texture. As you can see, you get less of that with all over brown hair. Easy fix! Add in some subtle light brown highlights so you still feel like YOU but your style pops ‼️ get those done a few months before so you have time to adjust to the look or make changes if needed

Sometimes the process to get where you want to be is a little frightening 😳

It’s so important to have trust in your stylist to make sure you guys are on the same page always but also because the process.. you have to have faith in the process.

I stepped out to use the bathroom and Alicia got to get a good look at herself in the mirror 😅😂😂 little birds nest action all for the price of beauty 😂

We’ve been going lighter over time. It started as subtle grey blend and we all knew it was going to spiral from there because it’s just fun lol every time she comes in she like “am I crazy??” Lmaoo not at all! Dimension is fun and once you get started it’s easy to want more.

This time she wanted her ends to be much brighter. She loves the look of dimension throughout but was wanting to see the ends mostly blonde. So I went around doing my usual highlighting technique but also added in what’s called a “tip out” which is sort of like a modern, updated version of ombré!

Blondie gals.. have you been noticing this trend? Is this something you’d try? Id only suggest this for people who want to feel super bright! It really adds a lot to the overall look 😍😍

Do you only think of blonde when I talk about dimension?

Because that truly doesn’t have to be the case.

Here is a perfect example! is loving having dark, dark hair right now. We have been glossing her with almost black color for a little while now and she will be getting married later this year so she doesn’t want to compromise her hair at all before that.

So we decided to do a very subtle and soft brown dimension because she wanted to do something different but also trying to keep in mind her wedding.

This is so beautiful 😍 and I loveeee playing with brown tones! And I love adding dimension to brunettes to show them dimension doesn’t have to be blonde. We can add a lot of depth without being “light”

Brunettes can play and stay feeling brunette.

So fun 🤩

These coppery red caramel-y tones will compliment someone with warmer skin tones best and make green eyes absolutely pop 🤩 but it’s always fun to try it out regardless of skin tones.

Hairline highlights will always be your friend! Adding in that brightness right in front will compliment the way you move your hair around. You know those moments where you’ve been flipping your hair and you think it’s probably really cute..

But then you catch yourself in the mirror and you actually look wild?? Lmaoooo the highlights will add a dimension that will keep you from looking crazy!

You know what she means, the layers and the face frame with all the body and movement.

The problem? Her hair was long AF .. thicccc and weighed down.

I hate to break it to you but if you want the body and movement, we cutting some length babe.

So we did it! Cut the length up some, added in the layers and a sharp ass face frame.

Blowout that was set with rollers to cool in place.

And boom 💥 blowout queen 💁🏻‍♀️

Do you miss the beautiful highlights the sun naturally does to your hairline in the spring and summer?

You don’t have to! We can mimic it all fall and winter 😍

My client here books a partial highlight but we just do a really nice hairline highlight. I take them all the way around her whole head (which is why it’s more than just a mini highlight) to blend the back into it too.

She mostly wears her hair up and this give her just enough dimension so she doesn’t feel dull but it’s still very low key.

She said she felt like her ends are prone to dryness.

I feel like so many people can relate. Also, to ends that are prone to breakage.

While regular trims are always going to be my number one suggestion there is a product I can recommend to help extend the protection of your ends.

It’s a split ends sealant (split ends treatment on my booking site) by that coats and protects for up to four weeks! It gets sealed in with a flat iron quick pass so make sure to book a blow dry with the treatment!

She also said she caught a picture of her hair from behind and hated that it looked so square. She loves having short, sharp angles around her face so I suggested going for the full angle and cutting her hair into a soft V shape.

Let’s talk about winterizing your hair! Some people want their hair brighter in the summer and when this time of year rolls around, the brightness starts to feel off.

We can balance those feelings by adding in some semi permanent low lights! Semi permanent will help so we can get back brighter again without damage when spring and summer rolls around.

Here I did soft lowlights just a touch darker than her natural color for some solid depth and touched up a few face framing highlights to keep the natural look going. This will get her through the darker months smoothly and feeling great with pops of dimension while not feeling too summery. ✨

The greys coming in are no big deal, promise. We can blend them with highlights and still be low maintenance

The changes in your skin are no big deal. Use really great moisturizer and drink lots of water to moisturize from the inside out

The changes in your body are ok! Just remember to move your body however feels good and makes you feel your best

Yes it’s true. You have a lower tolerance for bu****it. It brings peace, I promise. Just drop the dead weight all around you and recognize where you’re standing in your own way.

As we enter into a new year, I challenge you to look at what’s not been working for you. Do a little reflecting (don’t hang out in the past too long, it’s not serving you) and make the changes necessary.

Let’s talk about different bold face framing highlights ✨

I posted a video not too long ago of a client with a really subtle face frame you can go back and check it out.

But I really wanted to showcase the ranges face framing highlighting can have. So here are 2 different people with bolder face frames.

The first and third slides are bold but dimensional. You can see how it looks from the front and the side, it’s bold and pops but still has woven in natural hair

The second and fourth slides are solid. Nice and bold with zero dimension.

Both are stunning in their own way! It just depends on what you want to see around your face and how much brightness you want to work with

I’ve been wayy over due for a serious self care session.

Life’s been busy AF in a great way but still… I’ve been needing to give myself some time. I could feel it in my body, my productivity, my mood and my s**tty sleep patterns….

There wasn’t anything going on today so here it is. The space and time I’ve been craving.
Here’s some of the self care things I got into today:
Reading, went for a walk with the dogs for some fresh air, cooked delicious nourishing food, worked out and followed it up with a really solid stretch, epson salt bath and a face mask, full body lotion and wrapped in a robe.

A different look at grey blending 😍

Typically when I talk about grey blending, I’m highlighting someone’s mostly brown hair to blend on the greys and keep it soft. That approach works best when you still have a lot of your natural color going on.

But what happens when you’re full salt and pepper?? We add in some intentional pepper to make the salt pop 🤩

Lately we’ve been really feeling the heavy layering and lots of face framing angles. The movement is juusssttttt 🤌🏼🤌🏼

What what’s also been really coming along is this natural and soft yet poppin highlight situation 😍

We’ve been talking about just gently blending in grey hairs that are starting to show up and this has been the simplest solution. Blended so nicely she can literally go 5 months without getting it touched up! Legit

Let’s get into this low maintenance lifestyle! She comes to see me 2/3x a year, gets to let her hair *airdry* BTW because the cut IS the style and gets to just quick situate her bangs to feel beautiful and pulled together for the day.

Let’s talk about this change of season for a sec..

Yes, everyone wants to get all cozy for fall. Sweaters and pumpkin spice s**t everywhere 🤣🤣 (excuse me, we all know I’m a summer gal. I’m dealing)

But have you noticed how dry your skin is?? Like immediately and noticeably 🙄 think about what is happening to your hair too!

Every time the seasons change your hair, skin and nails go through an adjustment period too. We gotta start mixing in a hair mask!

Depending on your hairs density and how often you wash your hair I’d say use a mask once a week or every other week for a month or so.

You’ll be so glad you did. Your hair just behaves so much better when we take the proper care. Your soul needs it too! Spend some time taking special care of yourself. Light some candles after your hair mask shower and put lotion all over your body. Be mindful while doing it and stay present with yourself.

You can thank me later for the reminder when your floating post shower and getting the best night sleep 💤

I love the haircuts that are “trendy” right now 😍

I love that layers and movement are huge! I love that bouncy blowouts are back 😍

Yes, we will always love a classic waved, long haired look. That’s why it’s classic

But the body, bounce the layers and movement ughhhhhhh I just loveeee it!

I’ve done more V haircuts and heavy layering than I have done in a long time and I am here for it!!!

I might need the V cut next… hmmmmmmmm 😂😂
