As we get ready to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of D-Day, I want to post an article about the 320th Barrage Balloon Battalion, the only unit comprised entirely of African American soldiers to storm the beach on D-Day.

Protecting the Beaches with Balloons: D-Day and the 320th Barrage Balloon Battalion The 320th Barrage Balloon Battalion, the only unit that stormed the beach at Normandy on June 6, 1944, that was comprised entirely of African American soldiers, played a vital role in protecting the ships and soldiers during the D-Day invasion.

Manuscript Update!

I am three chapters into my book on the 370th Infantry Regiment (8th Infantry Regiment, Illinois National Guard). In last few days, I received a load of research from the chief historian of the Illinois Army National Guard. It is taking some time but I am getting through it all. More is on the way! She is excited about the project. Her first words to me when first reached out for research, "It's about time." I should be hearing from the National Guard National Library and Archives in Washington, D.C. tomorrow. From them, I will be getting unit records and AG Reports. A trip to Springfield and Chicago in order to obtain more research are in the works. Soon, these chapters will be done and off to the publisher! Wish me continued luck!
