Expungement clinics offer a vital opportunity for individuals, especially those who have experienced homelessness, to clear their criminal records and remove barriers to stable housing and employment. With a clean record, individuals can rebuild their lives and move toward long-term stability and self-sufficiency.
Here's a list of upcoming expungement clinics hosted by Maryland Legal Aid:
Karen was experiencing homelessness for two years, sleeping on the bus and constantly worried about her safety before she was connected with Candyce, a Housing Navigator at one of the Pratt Libraries. ๐๐ค
Candyce helped Karen get connected to vital resources and secure stable housing ๐ก through MOHS' Housing Navigation Program in partnership with Enoch Pratt Free Library.
Through this partnership, community members can visit the Central, Brooklyn, and Waverly branches to get help resolving a potential or current housing crisis.

Tori, a Baltimore native, faced unimaginable challenges during high school due to housing instability.
Often staying with family members or in her car, Tori constantly worried about having a safe place to lay her head at night. The stress of survival made it hard to focus on her studies, and she made the difficult decision to drop out in 12th grade to work full-time and provide for herself.
While Tori later earned her GED, she shared how something as simple as free school supplies would have eased the burden. No child should have to choose between school and survivalโevery youth deserves a safe place to call home.
Through gracious donations, MOHS was able to provide over 70 school-aged children in our shelter system with free school supplies this year.
Thank you, Tori, for sharing your story and advice on how we can better support youth experiencing homelessness or housing instability.

Our Street Homeless Outreach Workers are critical in bridging the gap between MOHS and the community, especially for those experiencing unsheltered homelessness.
By attending community events, engaging with residents, and collaborating with local organizations, our Outreach Team builds trust and fosters connections which are essential when reaching vulnerable individuals who might otherwise be overlooked.
This grassroots engagement allows us to better understand the unique challenges faced by our homeless population and to tailor our services accordingly. In partnership with the community, we can create a more inclusive and compassionate environment where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. ๐ค
