Tomorrow is Doctors Day! Join us in giving a shout out to our phenomenal physicians! Our ICLL docs are known for being leaders in their specialties and for the compassionate and expert care they provide to our patients. But what about when they are not in clinic or the operating room? We hope they’ll get to enjoy some of their favorite activities this weekend!
Dr. McClure loves to go fishing. Dr. Standard enjoys a lot of different activities, but one of his favorites is cooking with his oldest son. Check out some of their delicious looking food! When Dr. Siddiqui is not enjoying time with his family, you can find him on the golf course. Dr. Bibbo loves gardening. Check out his beautiful garden and him decorating his yard for the holidays! Dr. Assayag gets in the zone when he is playing his electric guitar. Dr. Herzenberg enjoys hiking in the Rockies near his new home in Colorado. You will have to run to catch Dr. Conway-- she loves running and surfing!

The Hackerman-Patz House launched a campaign to enhance its entertainment offerings, and we’re excited to share that it now has a new commercial grade arcade table with 3500 games to choose from! We’re so grateful to the families who generously gave funding for this purchase which is sure to provide countless hours of fun for our ICLL patient families staying at the Hackerman-Patz House on Sinai Hospital’s campus.
The campaign also raised enough to purchase a recumbent bike, and the next goal is to purchase a shuffleboard table. If you’d like to help by making a donation, please visit https://bit.ly/GivetoLBH and be sure to designate your gift to the Hackerman-Patz House in the drop-down menu. Our pediatric patients loved receiving the wonderful holiday toys donated at the Santa on the Farm event hosted by Carrie & Kevin Ford at their family’s Blue Star Farm. Pediatric Liaison Marilyn Richardson made a fabulous display of the gifts so the children could choose their favorites. Special thanks to the Ford Family and their guests for brightening the holidays for our kids! We’re also grateful that the event raised $500 for the Save-A-Limb Fund to help families who need financial assistance for physical therapy, stays at the Hackerman-Patz House, and other critical expenses. (Please note: The few children not wearing masks were allowed under current pediatric guidelines.)
All of us at the Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics (RIAO) and the International Center for Limb Lengthening (ICLL) wish you and yours happy & healthy holidays!
Thanks to our superstar volunteer, Brenda Holt, and countless donors to the toy drives she coordinates, our pediatric liaison Marilyn Richardson spreads holiday joy and gives our kids wonderful gifts to choose from. There are big smiles under those masks! (Please note: The few children not wearing masks were allowed under current pediatric guidelines.

We were very sad to learn of the recent loss of Dr. James Binski of Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Binski was a leading orthopedic surgeon and educator who excelled in the fields of trauma medicine and limb lengthening and reconstruction. Dr. Binski has been a staunch supporter of our Baltimore Limb Deformity Course and attended nearly every course since its inception 32 years ago. He also was passionate about our Save-A-Limb Fund, and we are so very honored that he chose for gifts in his memory to be made to support the fund. He donated a tremendous number of orthopedic frames and hardware for us to use on our international medical mission trips to help people with limb deformities who would not otherwise have access to care. We extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Debbie, and their family.
Earlier this spring, Dr. McClure went to Haiti for a week-long mission trip to help provide orthopedic care at Adventist Hospital in Carrefour just outside Port-au-Prince. While there, he performed surgery on many people with bone defects from traffic accidents and gunshot wounds as well as some adults with bone deformities. Dr. McClure brought 2 huge duffle bags full of vital medical supplies. Special thanks to the LifeBridge Health Sinai Hospital Pharmacy for donating the supplies and to Dr. Scott Nelson who hosted the visit. Donations to the Save-A-Limb Fund also helped make this trip possible. Dr. McClure is planning a return trip because the need there is so great.
Steve Linsenmeyer, who was in danger of losing his leg after serious complications arose following routine knee surgery, was recently featured in an issue of LifeBridge Health’s “Clinician Champion Notes.” Steve was referred to Dr. Janet Conway at the ICLL and credits her with saving his leg. Dr. Conway assessed Steve’s leg which would probably have had to have been amputated had she not operated the next morning. Steve ultimately needed 8 surgeries and a few years of antibiotic shots as Dr. Conway worked to heal him. “Dr. Conway is a rockstar. I am impressed by her skill and how much she obviously cares about her patients,” Steve shared. Thankful for his care, he recently made a generous gift to the Save-A-Limb Fund and the Orthopedic Infection Fund in her honor. We are grateful for his generosity and wish to help other patients with limb issues.
Happy New Year from all of us at the International Center for Limb Lengthening! Have a safe holiday, and we wish you all the best for 2022.
