Hungry Harvest
We deliver produce on a mission to end food waste and hunger for less than the average grocery store. No one should ever go hungry
2. Why?
Hungry Harvest believes in two fundamental, non-negotiable ideas:
1. No food should ever go to waste
Did you know 1 in 5 fruits and veggies go to waste every year? Because sometimes produce that’s grown is deemed “ugly” or a farmer had too good of a harvest. At the same time, 1 in 6 Americans go hungry. The good news is we’re on it. We use one problem to solve the other! First, we source produce
Here’s to a fruitful 2024! 🎊 Whether your New Year’s resolution is to explore your creativity (like Harvest Hero ! ), make healthy choices, or anything in between, we hope you have a great year ahead! 🧡🎊

Shout-out to Harvest Hero Jackie for sharing her tree-mendous orange Christmas tree with us! 🍊🎄
Fun fact: Satsuma oranges like these were once given as stocking stuffers because they symbolize a gift of gold from Santa!
Although this bunch was passed over by traditional grocery stores due to their lighter shade, we were happy to scoop them up for our Harvests, gorgeous leaves and all!
Who needs holly when you can deck the halls with citrus! 🍊✨ Make your own Dried Orange Garland with these super easy steps (no dehydrator needed!)
Store your garland in a cool, dry place and it’ll last for up to 2 years!
📝Note: Arrange your slices on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet to avoid them falling apart! The baking process depends on your oven’s temperature and the thickness of your slices, so be sure to check them every so often. The oranges should look dried & slightly translucent when done!
Celebrate the first night of Hanukkah with the crispy goodness of homemade latkes paired perfectly with our Honeycrisp Applesauce (made from rescued apples!).
Try this easy small-batch recipe!
🥔 Grate 2 potatoes and 1 onion. With a towel, wring out excess moisture. Mix with 1 beaten egg, 2 tablespoons of flour, salt, and pepper.
🔥 Pan-fry spoonfuls of the mixture in 1/4 cup of oil for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
🍏 Serve with a dollop of applesauce or sour cream!
Wishing a Happy Hanukkah to all those celebrating! 🕎✨
Orange you glad we rescued these delicious organic satsumas? 🍊✨
You might notice a slightly lighter orange shade to these citruses! That all comes down to the growing conditions, mainly temperature and the amount of light they soak up. 🌞
Because of their lighter color, they were passed over by traditional grocery stores, and we were lucky enough to grab 4,000 pounds for our Harvests this and next week! Toss them in a salad or simply savor their sweetness as is for a tasty treat!
The perfect way to use up that leftover cranberry sauce? A festive cocktail!
🔸 Mix a spoonful of cranberry sauce, a splash of lime juice, and 2 oz gin into a cocktail shaker
🔸 Add ice and shake
🔸 Strain into a glass and top with ginger ale
For a refreshing mocktail, swap the gin for cider. Garnish with rosemary and cranberries and cheers to a successful holiday and a relaxing weekend!🍹
This Thanksgiving, our hearts are full of gratitude for the chance to support some amazing organizations in our community!
We've been lucky enough to donate nearly 1,000 pounds of produce to both the Franciscan Center () for their Thanksgiving Fixings in a Box distribution and Moveable Feasts () as part of 's Cranksgiving food drive. 🚴♂️
In partnership with The Hopkins Food Pantry, we've also provided over 2,000 pounds of fresh food for our neighbors in Baltimore!
Thank you to these amazing organizations who work to make sure no one goes hungry and everyone has access to the nourishment they need. 🧡

From giant Brussels sprouts to small squash, our plate's got all the sizes covered!
Oversized and undersized produce often faces rejection on its journey to our table because of industry cosmetic standards and consumer preferences, but they're still perfectly delicious!
This holiday, let's give thanks to all the produce, big and small, and the hardworking farmers who grow them!
It's almost time to gobble up some side dishes! But hold onto your forks, folks! According to The Vacationer's survey, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, and roasted carrots are the least liked foods on the table. Don't fret, though! Check out these tips that'll turn these underdogs into family favorites! 🦃 🍂 🍠
Add a pop of cauliflower power to your plate! Each color is more than just a pretty hue-they're full of health benefits!
💜 Purple: Packed with anthocyanins, antioxidants that support heart health and lowers blood pressure.
🧡 Orange: Rich in beta-carotene that boosts skin, vision, and immunity.
💚 Green: Chock full of chlorophyll that reduces oxidative stress and inflammation!
Colorful cauliflower tends to get rejected from grocery stores because of its uniqueness. That's why we were stoked to rescue 1,200 pounds of the green and orange variety for our Harvests this week! 🙌
These little persimmons were about to be tossed before we jumped in to save almost 8K pounds of them! Just for being too small and scarred, they didn't quite meet the cosmetic standards of traditional stores, even though they're perfectly delicious!
Great in jam, salads, baked goodies, risotto, or as-is, they're our fall fruit MVP. 🙌
Pro tip: Leave them out at room temperature to ripen, or speed things up with a paper bag. Once they're ready, pop them in the fridge for up to 3 days of deliciousness!
Hold on to your stems, because we're about to 'stalk' about purple sprouting broccoli!
This variety's vibrant hue not only adds color but also brings a nutritional powerhouse to your plate. Its pigment comes from anthocyanin, an antioxidant that contains anti-inflammatory and heart-protective properties! 💜
Traditional retailers often reject this veggie due to its uniqueness, and that's where we step in! We were lucky enough to rescue 1,600 pounds of these beauties from one of our farmer partners who couldn't find a home for them!
What are you doing with your colorful cruciferous this week? 🥦
We're whipping up some devilishly delightful eggs for a boo-tiful Halloween spread! 👻 🥚 From spiders to pumpkins, we've got all the spooky vibes covered. Plus, it's scary easy! All you need are black olives, red peppers, chives, and paprika for some truly tricked out toppings!
Teamwork makes the dream work! This month, The Y in Central Maryland hosted a free produce market put together by two amazing schools in our community! Holabird STEM and Norwood Elementary distributed free fresh produce to almost 500 families and students in Central Maryland!
We were so happy to provide them with the fruits & veggies needed to make this event a success. A big shoutout to our dedicated community members and students who planned this drive and helped attendees pick out their produce! Together, we're building a stronger, healthier future for all.🧡

No pumpkins were harmed in the making of this spice! 🎃
"Pumpkin Spice" is actually a cozy combo of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, and cloves. Its name hails from the spices traditionally used to flavor pumpkin pie, making it the ultimate fall flavor!
It's super easy to make too! Just combine all the ingredients and add them to desserts, drinks, soups, side dishes, and more!

Sunscald might have given these acorn squashes a summer glow, but we’re here to show them some extra love! ☀️🧡
Traditional grocery stores usually reject these sun-kissed superstars for not meeting cosmetics standards, so we were lucky enough to rescue nearly 3,000 pounds from our friends at Shlagel Farms in Waldorf, MD.
We love ‘em roasted with a sprinkle of pomegranate seeds! Nutty, sweet, and super versatile, they’re perfect stuffed, as a side dish, or in soups and salads!
