Dharmata 101

A sonic freighttrain of enlightenment- rolling since 1997.

It was the product of a different era.

The songs were written in a flurry of pre/post millennial fervor. Society went from being terrified by a software glitch- expecting the end of the world as we know it, to justifiably afraid of terrorists physically threatening harm to us & our families- expecting the end of the world as we know it.

It’s morbidly fascinating to look at the world in 2024 and look at what we now think will bring an end to it (as we know it): mass infection, irreversible climate change, or, once again, political extremists.

The songs were also written over seven years by a pretty awkward young man, coping with having to deal with all of it, while hungry to perform these songs to any sort of audience. They came together over seven years of a pretty odd life, written by this guy who was starting to discover adulthood, love, and many normal things, but also this guy that was dealing with being in war zones, while starting to have a deeper connection to Buddhism.

Even back then, people told me the songs I wrote were too disparate- but then again my life, and the world around me, was far too complicated for those songs *not* to be… as it’s been right on up until today.

……………………….

A month ago, I performed one of those songs in an updated (and thankfully shortened!) fashion specifically for Mel. And I’ve got a couple other ones that I will occasionally play out. And I’ve got one stashed away that I changed all the words to & completely rethinged (namely because I don’t like the lyrics to “jihad” in the year of our lord 2024- nor have I liked them for a lot of the time since the album was released 17 years ago.

There’s one song I need to put together for a compilation. It needs to be aggressive. I can manage that.

There’s another that I’ve completely altered and will be on the NEXT d101 record- so ignore this.

So that’s maybe… three left to square away? Guess I’ve got work to do.

Everything you need to know. Really looking forward to this; playing some new numbers for the first time, playing some other ones for the first time in 15 years (!), and happy to be sharing a stage with my talented new friend Jester. Make it out if you can. It's gonna be a blast.

It dawned on me the other day that I’ve gone nearly 4 years without playing a show.

This isn’t the sorta thing one should have *anniversaries* for, let alone allow to happen in the first place…. no matter what life has thrown at me.

So I just went downstairs & started playing some piano. It’s… a start.

…….

So, -IF- I decided to, say, do a streaming performance of some sort- would you be interested in seeing it? And if so, how long would you like the show to be?
