Please check out the Special Reel Rewards Event on July 20 (Saturday) from 3-6PM at Middle Branch Park! This event is free and open to the public.

Join us for Associated Black Charities' newest community event, The Cookout, on September 14, 2024, at Canton Waterfront Park! The Cookout is a free community event and a full-blown celebration of Black heritage and resilience. There will be entertainment and activities for adults and children alike, and all will be invited to join our movement march and rally for equity and inclusion. We are excited about this powerful demonstration of unity and call for justice, and we look forward to the energy, excitement, and solidarity as people come together to advocate for our future.

Presented by The Harbor Bank of Maryland, The Cookout will feature interactive exhibits and community resources. Attendees will connect with local Black-owned businesses, discover new products, and support the community. With fun family and children’s activities and traditional elements that make The Cookout feel like a giant family reunion, including spades, dominoes, line dancing, and a variety of family fun activities, it will create a beautiful mosaic of joy and togetherness.

Leslie Vass is South Baltimore Strong! Mr. Vass was unjustly imprisoned at the age of 17 in 1975 for armed robbery. After a decade, at the age of 28, Leslie Vass was finally exonerated. The victim who initially identified Vass as the robber later confessed his error in identification when a Maryland public defender reopened the case and presented him with a photo of another suspect. The victim then positively identified the new individual as the culprit, acknowledging his mistake in identifying Vass earlier.

Leslie Vass went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in sociology from Towson State University and became a certified paralegal. He is actively involved in advocating for exonerees both locally and nationwide. You can meet Mr. Vass in person at the 8th Annual Cherry Hill Arts & Music Waterfront Festival, discover ways to support his ongoing efforts, and become part of a community committed to justice, equality, and compassion.

For years, the Cherry Hill United Methodist Church has been dedicated to supporting individuals in need of food through its food pantry and soup kitchen initiatives. This vital food ministry serves the Cherry Hill, Westport, and Mt. Winans communities, with the recent introduction of a mobile food pantry offering fresh produce to local residents.

At the helm of the food ministry are Margaret Roberts and Pastor Daryl A. Foster, leading a team of committed volunteers, including Patricia Fisher, Stanley Scurry, Robert Beckett, Laverne McLaurin, Linda Richardson, Diane Thomas, Charles Weaver, and Tamara Linton.
