In Maryland, there are an estimated 760,000 unpaid caregivers who provide 710 million hours of care valued at $12.5 billion. During National Family Caregivers Month, it's important to remember that many grandparents and older adults are taking care of grandchildren or other children in their family. Maryland’s Kinship Navigator Services is an information and referral program that supports kinship caregivers who are caring for their minor relative(s), who are unable to safely remain in the care of their parents. Maryland ABLE had a great day talking with lots of amazing transition age students at the Lower Sore Transition Conference hosted by Wicomico, Worchester, and Somerset County Public Schools. Also, it was wonderful to connect with so many of our wonderful community partners like Bay Area Center for Independent Living, Inc.

Big news! Beginning 1/1/2026, the age of disability onset will change from 26 to 46 years old. This means that a person whose disability began before the age of 46 will be ABLE eligible and can open an ABLE account at any age. Learn more at https://bit.ly/3QuBPKu.
