The color blue symbolizes calmness and tranquility, although the meaning of blue is widely affected depending on the exact shade and hue. It’s often used in landscapes to represent water or sky and can be used to create a sense of serenity and relaxation.
With the addition of simple strips of wood, walls can go from basic to ornate. This new look doesn't mean you need to forgo artwork! Molding can be the perfect three-dimensional backdrop for your favorite pieces.
Incorporating art into a game room should be fun and creative. Outside of traditional framed prints, you can add wall sculptures, board games or even ping pong paddles.
Today marks an extraordinary milestone in the history of The Chessler Company - our 65th anniversary. Take a stroll with us down memory lane as we look back at our rich history that brings us to today:
After working in a local department store and seeing the need for a picture framing vendor Richard “Dick” Chessler opened The Chessler Company in July of 1959 at our first location 2911 West Belvedere Avenue in Baltimore.
In the company's early days, Dick Chessler actively managed all aspects, overseeing sales, production, and bookkeeping. His hands-on approach and entrepreneurial spirit were instrumental in establishing a foundation for The Chessler Company's success and growth.
As the company grew, Dick’s wife, Babette, juggled family and work to help with sales and bookkeeping at the frame shop.
The business continued to expand, serving art galleries, art supply stores, photographers, interior designers along with many retail clients. Needing more space, in 1961, The Chessler Company moved to its second location, 2807 W. Belvedere Avenue.
In 1971, with the framing business growing, we moved to our present location, 4211 Primrose Ave. Throughout the 1970s and 80s, wholesale sales to art galleries, interior designers and art supply stores flourished, while retail sales remained strong.
In the 1990’s our clientele expanded to include larger scale projects for healthcare systems and boutique art dealers. Dick and Babs began transitioning to working part time and spending winters in Florida. Our second generation, Howard Chessler, took over the helm of the company.
The 2000s was a time of further growth. Howard focused on the serving of clients with large scale projects in healthcare, senior living and commercial interior design. He made improvements to the production line and began offering custom installation services. Despite a slowdown in retail sales in the 2010s following the 2008 recession, The Chessler Company continued to thrive.
Our 3rd generation Howard's son, Eric (Dick's grandson), assumed leadership of The Chessler Company in 2019. Eric has infused new energy into the business with the introduction of art consultation services, installation-only services, and an expanded geographical footprint, facilitating the company's continued growth into the present day.
A room with limited horizontal wall space is the perfect space to vertically stack artwork. Installing art vertically can even give the illusion of higher ceilings.
Repurposing basketballs into artwork! We built a custom rack to display the basketballs to match the client's vision. How can we help bring your visions to life?
63 books with printed images installed in a grid format to create the Washington Monument and Mount Vernon Place. We laid out the books and roughly installed all of the pieces first, then after minor adjustments took them all off to install the security hardware to lock them to the wall. This goes for decorating rooms of all heights, but it’s especially important for tall spaces. If the artwork is too small, it’ll end up looking like it’s floating in outer space all by itself. Consider grouping multiple pieces and stacking them for height.
The coordination of furniture, art and other finishes should flow together and create an inviting space. To accomplish this, your art can pick up on colors and design elements from curtains and other accessories.
Magenta is the color of universal harmony and emotional balance. With a touch of color in both the carpet and artwork it helps balance this room creating instant harmony.
Minimalist gallery walls are a popular choice because they offer a clean and simple look that can fit with any home decor style. Their timeless look is both simple and beautiful, so you won’t have to worry about it going out of style anytime soon.

It's not unusual for styles from another era to make a comeback, and this is certainly true of mid-century modern. Mid-century modern style flourished during the mid-20th century when post-war families began expanding into America's suburbs. Art elements include clean lines, muted tones, and organic materials.
