$2 million to support future Kentucky teachers in 10 school districts 🍎
A four-year U.S. Department of Education award, Project CARE (Collaborative Apprenticeships for Rural Educators), will support high school students in rural areas of Kentucky as they pursue careers as K-12 teachers.
“This federal award affords WKU the opportunity to continue its work to build a framework for educator apprenticeship in Kentucky. Living, learning, and working in the communities we serve will further establish impactful Grow Your Own opportunities helping to resolve the teacher shortage in our Commonwealth,” shared WKU College of Education and Behavioral Sciences Dean Corinne Murphy.
Project CARE enhances WKU’s partnership with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) to provide a pathway for future teachers to begin their college preparation in high school through a collaborative dual credit K-12 Teaching and Learning Early College Pathway.
Project CARE will support teacher apprenticeships in ten Kentucky school districts, including Caverna Independent, Grayson County, and Nelson County, among others.
Members of WKU’s Project CARE team are Dr. Susan Keesey, Dr. Marguerita DeSander, and Dr. Dennis George. Dr. Corinne Murphy (bottom right) is the Dean of the WKU College of Education and Behavioral Sciences.

It is so important for our Aspiring Teachers to be educated and aware of how local policies will impact them in their careers as a teacher. These two ladies posed some education related questions to current candidates to begin to understand how specific laws play into teaching as a profession. There’s no teaching more effective than actually living out what you are learning!
