Today around 0845 hrs, Nelson County Dispatch received the call we had been preparing for with the potential weather threat. Confirmed later, we got a call of a possible tornado in the Chaplin area. Without hesitation the dispatchers working went into action and got emergency responders going.

As one of the dispatchers was on the phone with the resident, the tornado hits their home. Luckily, everyone was able to find a safe place to wait out the storm. It’s a good day when everyone is safe, no injuries and our responders go home safely, more so when the situation requires a response in the conditions today.

To Caitlin Masterson, Carissa McGrew Billings, Dylan Walter and Jessica Lynn Wells; great job on an outstanding performance today. Even when you were nervous and concerned, you didn’t waiver from your responsibility. That responsibility is what drives you to achieve the best response and best possible outcome. I am so proud of your performances today and everyday.

Hey Nelson County, in just 13 days, Nelson County Dispatch will be celebrating National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week! This week is to show our dispatchers just how much we appreciate everything they do for our community. Day in and out, they make split second decisions, while keeping our responders safe and sending help to those in need.

We started doing adopt a dispatcher last year and it was a huge success. If you are willing to adopt a dispatcher for Tele-week, please reach out to me and I can provide you with a name. You can reach me on messenger or by email at [email protected] They all truly enjoyed their care packages last year. Let’s make 2024 NPSTW just as amazing as last year.

Thank you!!
