We're floored π₯Ίπ.
π³οΈβπ
Our goal with the 6th Annual RehabGYM Invitational Strength Meet was to raise $2000. That would have been $600 more than last year. We ended up raising β¨$3123β¨ for The Rainbow Bridge Community Center.
π³οΈβπ
We want to thank our incredible sponsors (listed below) who came out in droves to help us make this event incredible.
π³οΈβπ
The biggest difference between 2023 and 2024's donation totals, though, was the money raised by the lifters themselves. Our 31 lifters contributed $1500 either through money they raised or personal contributions.
π³οΈβπ
Thank you so much to everyone who keeps showing us why we started this event in the first place π₯°

Our main source of raising funds for our wonderful friends and neighbors has been through sponsorships (check out the tags below for companies that have already contributed to our efforts this year) and via the block party we're hosting on May 18th from 10am-1pm.

Barre Area Development, Inc.
The RehabGYM Invitational Strength Meet is primarily geared towards two groups of people:
1οΈβ£ The RehabGYM community (ie members, patients, staff, family, and close friends).
2οΈβ£ Those who have been historically marginalized in strength sports and haven't felt comfortable in competitive strength spaces.
Re: Number 2οΈβ£: There are people who are comfortable walking into any strength competition in New England. That's really awesome, but this competition isn't for them. This is for the other people. Those who have seen those competitions and spaces and wished they felt comfortable enough to sign up. This is for trans people who would sign up, except they know they'll be hassled to produce a driver's license and forced to compete in the gender category listed on it. This is for people who would sign up but don't feel comfortable stripping down to next to nothing and being weighed. This is for older adults who would sign up but don't because they don't see enough of their peers competing and feel like it's a βyoung person's thing.β
Our meet doesn't have weigh-in's and we don't ask for your bodyweight. The lifters can compete in whichever of the three gender categories they want to (Male, Female, or Open), no questions asked. Our meet is supportive to brand new, inexperienced lifters. If you forget a command we'll let you retry your lift. We use pound plates instead of kilos. It's deadlift-only, since that tends to be the most accessible lift for the most people. We don't require singlets or any particular equipment, and costumes are encouraged!
For several people this meet has served as an entry point, leaving them feeling excited enough about strength sports to sign up for larger, federated meets. We hope this event helps to draw people in to the strength sport world!
DM us if you're interested in participating! Early bird pricing ($35) ends on 5/1/24!

We're still 6 weeks out from the 6th Annual RehabGYM Invitational Strength Meet on May 18th, but the community is already turning out to help us make this the biggest one yet.
We're overwhelmed by the response already, especially since many of these businesses were affected by last year's flooding. This community is really incredible in how it helps each other out.
Last year we raised over $1300 for The Rainbow Bridge Community Center, and our goal this year is at least $2000. If you're a business, DM us to chip in and show us that we set our goal way too low π₯°

π We enjoy hosting, supporting, and participating in community building, health-oriented activities and events. We encourage staff to present opportunities within their specific areas of interest for us to support or participate in. We also understand if you prefer to keep your hobbies separate from work. These types of events are always optional.

When Aja Varney first came to the RehabGYM at Barre City Place it was for physical therapy to help her be able to pick up a coffee cup without pain. Since then she's stayed on as a member, returned to lifting, and has PR'd all of her lifts, including 400+ in competition and 390 at this year's RehabGYM Invitational Strength Meet.
