August 2024 SCHA MEETING MINUTES
MEETING CALLED TO ORDER BY GARY AT 8:01PM ATTENDEES: 27
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
MONTH MEETING MINUTES:
· Read and accepted
TREASURER’S REPORT:
· Read and accepted
SCOPE:
· Regular meeting last night, discussion on upcoming elections
· Proposition 1 discussion, Pat Galivan says it is bad legislation. Advise to vote no but get educated on it.

Proposition 1 Fact Sheet

What is Proposition 1?
Proposition 1 is a constitutional amendment that the Democrats are trying to put back onto the statewide ballot November 5, 2024
This would amend Section 11 of Article 1 of the New your State Constitution to include ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, or s*x, including s*xual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy, pregnancy outcomes, reproduction health and autonomy.

The Negative Intentional Consequences
Proposition 1 will have wide ranging consequences that could destroy the integrity of girls’ sports, erode parental rights, extend constitutional rights to illegal aliens, and more. If passed Proposition 1 could;
· Prohibit education institutions from barring males from participating in female sports.
· Allow males to use female locker rooms, restrooms, and related facilities.
· Grant minors the right to medical treatments and procedures, including gender transition drugs and/or surgeries without parental consent.
· Override existing statutes limiting medical intervention to children.
· Ban schools from disclosing to parents when their child is considering or actually transitioning their gender.
· Extend constitutional protections to illegal aliens.
· Open the door for a slew of radical bills that would destroy parental oversight and involvement in their children’s education and medical decisions.

New York law already allows abortion until the end of the ninth month. Kathy Hochul and the Democrats are attempting to define this constitutional amendment as being all about abortion but that is a lie and easily refuted by simply reading the text of the proposed amendment.

To protect your rights, stand up for parents, and save girls’ sprots, EVERY common-sense New Yorker MUST vote NO on Proposition 1 November 5th.

SCOPE GENESEE COUNTY MEETING MINUTES
Held at Sportsman C**n Club, 8770 Hopkins Rd, Batavia, NY
Tuesday, June 10, 2024
The meeting opened at 7:00PM with the pledge of allegiance and prayer led by James Tuttle for guidance and promoting good decisions on behalf of our country.
Correspondence: None to report.
Minutes: Dave K. noted that the minutes under “Shows” should read Oatka Rod & Gun Club and not “Fest” on 6/9. Kathy stated that under “Good & Welfare” she had looked up legislation(2224A/S50) and (S8719) to obtain updates, but those bill numbers did not correspond with any type of gun legislation as we discussed. She will eliminate those bills numbers from the minutes.
Motion: To accept the minutes with corrections: 1st Bob Dash 2nd Dave Kaufman; motion passed.
Treasurer’s Report: Copies of the end of May finances were available at the meeting. There was one $25 reimbursement deposited for a new membership. We paid Batavia Legal Printing $373.14 for the raffle ticket printing.
Motion: To accept the Treasurer’s report: 1st Bruce LeRoy; 2nd Bob Dash; motion passed.
Committee Reports:
Coins: No report.
Signs: No report.
Shows: Bob Dash and Charlie Balcom
Firing Pin: (6/8 & 6/9) We received $100 (one new member and donations). Candy bars were sold out ($62 income). We sold 25 books of raffle tickets for the framed Constitution. The petitions were filled with signatures for our proposed upcoming lawsuit to rescind the most recent NICS ammo checks.
Oatka Fish & Game: (6/9) We brought in $172 in regalia, plus 2 memberships and gun raffle sales. The glass etched steins sold well.
Lock box: Bob bought a second lock box. There is $96 for petty cash change with it.
Motion: To reimburse Bob Dash $64.79: 1st Charlie Balcolm 2nd Linda Rindell; motion passed.
Bergen Parade: (6/8) Genesee County chapter participated in this event.
Thank You Cards: We are sending four cards out to the Firing Pin, the Bergen Business Association, Oatka Rod & Gun Club and to Bob Bialkowski (Memorial Day Parade) for inviting us to their events. Members present were asked to sign the cards, and Dave K. will mail them.
Petitions: Chairman Jim reported that parent SCOPE received an email from Secretary Sue saying that President John Elwood (retired Lieutenant Army Colonel) had sent in all of the petitions collected by them from other counties into Albany without informing us. The outgoing president wanted them sent in before the elections, which was not the intent of our chapter’s goals. Therefore, the remaining Genesee County petitions are in our possession, so we’ll move forward with our plans and continue to collect signatures over the summer for the next legislative session. Jim asked that members take petitions to their individual clubs for signatures.
Parent SCOPE Gun Raffle: We are not participating in or selling tickets for them, but focusing on our own raffle at this time.
Raffle Tickets: A Framed Constitution (with a one ounce silver coin valued at $40) donated by Tim Grooms will be raffled by our chapter; $1/ticket or 6 tickets/$5. Drawing is November 12.
Canandaigua Steam Show: Corky reported that the Board of Directors declined to have us participate.
NYS SCOPE Website: Kathy reported that she had contacted Secretary Sue Maressa about updating our Genesee County chapter’s information. Kathy looks at the website before every monthly meeting, but we are supposed to submit our own report if we want it posted. Glen has been submitting items and photos on his youth team activities. Kathy will plan to send in an update for the next quarter.
Attica Rodeo: (8/1, 2, 3 & 4) Bob contacted the person in charge, and they are happy to give us booth space and will waive the $250 fee.
Federation: Glen reported that the next meeting with be at the Alabama Hunt Club on the last Tuesday, June 25. Tim will take petitions to the meeting picnic. Glen thanked us for supporting the youth team this year for the NYS Shoot (near Cicero, NY); 24 attended. He sent photos to the NYS SCOPE. One female student won 1st place for the “JV Averages”. Another young man tied for 1st place, except that reverse scoring put him in 4th place. There were over 2000 students shooting at the event, which started with 67 teams, now at 155 teams. Glenn has tickets for the Conservation which is raffling sporting goods (fishing fear, Bass Pro gift cards; no guns).
Candy Bars: Jim will order more candy bars.
Alexander GunShow: (6/15) Father’s Day weekend
Genesee County Fair: (8/20-25)
Alexander Steam Show: (9/5-8)
Labor Day Parade: (9/2) Oakfield (not confirmed)
Pembroke Car Show: (TBD) (9/15?)
Old Business:
SCOPE Annual Banquet: (9/28) Pompei Rod & Gun Club, 2035 Swift Rd., Fabius, NY (south of Syracuse, off Rte 81), is hosting the meeting, which will include archery, pistol, target and trap shooting prior to the meeting. There will be a chicken BBQ. The Chairman, John Elwood, is a retired colonel and was just voted in as our new President.
New Business:
Legislation:
Back Hunting Tags: (A10565/S8644) The old heavy cardboard tags will be eliminated, and they’ll issue a plain paper receipt instead. Hunters have been working to eliminate them for many years. You can take a photo and keep a record there. You can also print out your own license on the computer (one for each jacket) and carry it.
NRA-ILA Bill Summary: The legislative session has ended, and the NRA sent out an email to members with a list of which bills passed and those that did not.
Open Carry Gun Law: (S9137/A10052) NYS bans open carry shotgun and rifle in a manner that cannot be seen by others. It was passed in the Senate, but did not pass the Assembly. Therefore, it died in committee, but can be reintroduced next session.
Posted Property Trespass: The penalty was increased and is a Class A misdemeanor with a year in jail.
Memorial Day Parade: Bob asked whether we should charge for the green t-shirts that the members wore in the parade. It was voted at last month’s meeting that there would be no charge; however, if someone wanted to pay for the shirt, they could.
Godfrey’s Pond Annual Festival: (9/21-22) Glen will set up a booth for us.
Chapter T-shirts: We discussed which colors to purchase, probably blue in M/L/XL/XXL. Glen will check for set up and pricing at LP Graphics.
Donation Jars/Clipboards: Bob asked for empty large donation jars and clipboards for our booths if members had any.
Primary Election: (Tuesday, June 25) 6AM-9PM; early voting 6/15-23.
National GOA: Blake reported that NYS Gun Owners of America is involved in a lawsuit (Higby vs James) asking for gun permit reciprocity with other states, which follows the Bruen case. There are 4 different cases with injunctions, which mean that the law can’t be enforced while being litigated.
GOA vs Hocul: Paloma Capana is litigating this case. Only two of the 5 cases being filed have been decided upon since last March 2023. www.GOANYS.com
Good & Welfare:
NYS passed a law that requires that a “warning” sign be included with the sale of each gun. The shop must have a sign posted in the window along with the su***de prevention hotline number.
Hunter Biden was found guilty on all charges, including falsifying forms on gun purchase.
Don P. referred members to the Erie County Federation of Sportsmen website (Carl Lees) which lists of all proposed bills. He asked that the youth group leaders check the hunting schedule so as not to conflict with open hunting seasons to increase youth participation.
Motion to adjourn (8:00PM): 1st Bruce 2nd Tim Grooms; motion passed.
Respectively submitted,

Kathryn Seweryniak, Secretary
SCOPE Genesee County
