UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD'S FIRST BLACK WOMAN TRAIN ENGINEER
Edwina Justus (July 11, 1943) is a African-American trailblazer engineer who is best known for being Union Pacific's first black female train engineer.
At a young age, Edwina's role as a change-maker began when she became the first African-American girl to attend Brown Park School, and she was the only person of color in the entire school.
In search of better opportunities, Edwina applied for a job at Union Pacific. After her application was denied, she enrolled at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
When she applied at Union Pacific for the second time, her application was a success. Justus began her career at U.P. in 1973 as a clerk at one of its Omaha facilities. Edwina Justus was one of five black women who worked in the Omaha office.
In 1976 she applied for an engineer opening in North Platte, Neb. She got the job and became UP’s first black female engineer at the age of 34. North Platte was a big operation. Union Pacific is the largest railroad in the United States. “When I received the offer in North Platte, Nebraska, my dad encouraged me to take it.”
However, the work environment wasn't supportive. Edwina endured racial slurs and the belief that she couldn't do good work as a woman. But she was not deterred. She used her wit and performance to excel in her career.
Justus worked 22 years before retiring in 1998. She hauled items such as livestock, automobiles and airplane wings to Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Denver, Colorado, never taking for granted the beauty of a sunset or quiet night.
“Railroading isn’t easy, but I didn’t let anyone bully me and I always stood up for myself,” Justus said.
In 2018, Justus was honored in a Durham Museum exhibit. The exhibit shares the diverse experiences of 12 Nebraska women through time.

The internet created a whole new world of digital possibilities. Emmit McHenry created the internet.
Emmitt McHenry was born a preacher’s grandson in Forrest City, Arkansas in 1943. Growing up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, McHenry graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and went on to receive his B.S. in communications from the University of Denver in 1966. He soon after enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps where he attained the rank of lieutenant.
Upon graduating with his M.S. in communications from Northwestern University, McHenry and a few associates started an engineering company called Network Solutions. 16 years into their successful venture, they were awarded a contract with the U.S. Government that would turn their company into a legacy.
After the government received and reviewed several proposals, Network Solutions was granted the contract with the National Science Foundation to create and manage the world’s first domain name registration service. Back then, the internet’s commercial potential hadn’t yet been realized. It wasn’t until Emmit McHenry created a complex code which allowed any person the ability to search the internet and use email services without having to have studied and be knowledgeable in computer programming. McHenry did the work for us, officially creating what we now know as the .com, .net, .edu, and .gov – allowing us to communicate through the internet.
McHenry is an inventor, an engineer, an entrepreneur, a veteran, and a trailblazer. His honors include an Honorary Doctorate from Shaw University, the Marine Corps Sunset Parade Guest of Honor, and the Chairman’s Award from the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Foundation. He remains the Founder, Chairman, and CEO of NetCom Solutions International, Inc., – and Chairman of Archura, LLC, co-founded by his son.

An Excerpt of Phenomenal Lover ... Anniversary Gifts
Whether you are in the first days of marriage or have already experienced a rich life together, it is important to celebrate milestones. Each year is linked with a gift idea. Below I will provide examples for anniversary gifts by year and briefly explain why each object represents the passage of varying amounts of time. Traditional gifts became a symbolic metaphor to mark the years. As time passed, the gifts associated with each anniversary evolved alongside society. Modern gift ideas reflect items that have become more popular for couples today. Some of them offer practical alternatives to luxury items.
I want to be so full of Christ that if a mosquito bites me it will fly away singing, "There’s POWER in the BLOOD." 💛🦟 HAPPY WEDNESDAY🦟💛

—Morrison was born on December 20, 1912 to Louise (Lewis) and Joseph Ernest Morrison, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He made his unofficial movie debut as an infant, filling in for another child that would not stop crying.
—He was given the nickname “Sunshine” by the crew, and later went on to use the names Sunshine Sambo, Little Sambo, Sunshine Sammy, Ernie, or just Sammy. Morrison made his official movie debut in 1916, in The Soul of a Child, at age three. From 1917 to 1922, Morrison appeared in a series of silent films produced by Harold Lloyd.
—In 1919, he became the first black actor to be signed to a long-term contract with comedy film producer Hal Roach. Roach created a series called The Sunshine Sammy Series just for Morrison in 1921, but only one segment produced was aired.
—Roach recreated his idea in a series called Hal Roach’s Rascals/ Our Gang. Morrison made his debut as “Booker T. Bacon” in the 1922 debut short of the series called “One Terrible Day.” As the oldest member of the cast, Morrison was paid $10,000 a year, making him the highest paid black actor in Hollywood at the time. He filmed 28 episodes and remained with the show until 1924, when he was 12.
—Morrison was drafted into the US Army during World War II in 1944, and he often performed as a comedian-singer-dancer for the troops. After his discharge in 1945, Morrison was offered a part in the series, The Bowery Boys, but he declined the offer. He accepted a job as a quality control inspector for an aerospace company in Compton, California, and worked there for the next seventeen years. After he retired, he again appeared on television in the 1970s in episodes of Good Times and the Jeffersons. Morrison appeared in one hundred and forty-five motion pictures in his career. He was inducted into the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame in 1987 but only two years later died of cancer at the age of 76 on July 24, 1989, in Lynwood, California.
Nobody hide pains better than someone that's trying to remain strong for their family. May GOD continue to strengthen you with FAVOR and HIS GRACE. Love, Peace, and Hairgrease. 💙✌🏽🪔

Mary was sold to a man named Robert Lumpkin at the age of around 13 and was forced to bear children for him & help him run a slave jail in Richmond, Virginia. It was known as Lumpkin’s jail.
Slave jails were sites of confinement & torture for enslaved men, women and children who tried to escape from slavery to free states or who were waiting to be sold.
The Devil’s Half Acre was the largest antebellum slave-trading site outside of New Orleans. it was a holding pen, a punishment and “breaking” center for more than 300,000 enslaved men and women,
Mary managed to educate her children and find a path to freedom, moving them and herself to the free state of Pennsylvania with Robert’s blessing prior to the Civil War.
Mary had bargained for her children’s freedom. She reportedly told Robert that he could treat her however he wanted as long as their kids remained free.
When Robert died in 1866, Mary and her children were living in Philadelphia, where they’d moved when the Civil War broke out to avoid being captured & sold into slavery.
Robert had left the jail to Mary in a will so she inherited it, though she didn’t want anything to do with it.
With the help of a white Baptist missionary, she turned the place into a school.
Black students began receiving education at the Richmond Theological School for Freedmen eventually becoming Virginia Union University.
It became the cornerstone for one of America’s historically Black colleges and universities (HBCU). Virginia Union University (VUU) is still in existence today.

An Excerpt of Phenomenal Lover's interpreting Solomon 4:9 ~
"The more we see the Lord the more we begin to understand who we are in Christ through one another in our relationship... We need to focus on that inner walk with God and keep Him in the center... when God looks at me he sees his image and nothing is more important as far as God is concerned... God’s greatest joy is in seeing his image reflected from our soul.
