Meet out instructors part 2!
Brad Cramer !

PIRATE, KNIGHT, AND JEDI ARE JUST A FEW OF THE ITEMS ON BRAD CRAMER’S FENCING RESUME IN ADDITION TO FENCING INSTRUCTOR. BRAD STARTED FENCING IN 2004 WHEN HE COFOUNDED THE UNIVERSITY OF WEST FLORIDA FENCING CLUB. HE ALSO BECAME INVOLVED WITH FENCING THROUGH THE SCA WHERE HE ACHIEVED THE ORDER OF DEFENSE (IN 2016.)

BRAD WAS INTRODUCED TO THE WORLD OF CLASSICAL ITALIAN FENCING THROUGH MAESTRO AND MAESTRA COBLENTZ, REGULARLY ATTENDING RASP AND SERFO EVENTS. IN 2019, BRAD EARNED HIS INSTRUCTOR-AT-ARMS WITH HISTORICAL CONCENTRATION IN RAPIER FROM THE SONOMA STATE FENCING MASTERS CERTIFICATE PROGRAM AND EARNED HIS PROVOST-AT-ARMS IN 2023.

IN ADDITION TO HISTORICAL AND CLASSICAL FENCING, BRAD ALSO COMPETES AND COACHES IN MODERN FENCING AND RUNS A PIRATE SHOW AT A BEACH RESORT COMPLETE WITH CHOREOGRAPHED SWORDPLAY.

Meet our instructors!

Teaching messer: Joel Overly, Coach at En Garde Fencing.

Joel started fencing at EGF in 2017. He had a passion for Historical European Martial Arts and started a German longsword program with a focus on the early Lichtenauer sources, specifically Ringeck and Ms 3227a. He takes a holistic approach to KDF including Ligitzner's sword and buckler and Lecküchner's messer. Joel was fortunate enough to attract some like-minded individuals, and with the help of the rapier and saber programs, build a competitive HEMA team that has been successful in several different weapons in tournaments across the country. As a longsword instructor and the coach of the EGF HEMA tournament team, Joel emphasizes core fundamentals of athleticism and fencing to make historical techniques accessible. Joel believes that learning and progression happen best through free play, and that swords, sword fighting, and history are objectively awesome.

Bayoufecht update - Rubber tips or leather wraps taped will be required. Purpleheart Armoury will have some available but we ask that you come prepared!

Hi everyone! This is the first of several Bayoufecht updates that will come out via email and social media over the next few days!

Josh is working hard to get tournament details out such as rules and format, so keep an eye out for those soon.
Saturday night we will have some additional awards and such at the after party, so make sure to show up 🙂

Speaking of the afterparty, our amazing hosts have agreed to let us use the pool as of right now so bring a swimsuit. This can change at any time with safety being the first priority along with being respectful of our hosts’ and their space. The vibe of this party will be chill and family friendly, and anyone contributing to unwanted chaos or an unsafe environment will be asked to leave.

We are currently working on the possibility of providing pizza for lunch on Saturday. This has not been finalized but in the works.
