A job in healthcare can be very demanding, stressful, and consuming. It’s important to take time out of busy schedules to celebrate achievements and new beginnings as a team. Happy late birthday to Kymber and Alexis! Looking forward to many more with you guys! .john

Every Fall I try to make it to at least one LSU Women’s Soccer game. Last night we won the SEC home opener against Ole Miss 1-0. My teammates and I were honored as alum at halftime. I’m looking forward to cheering on Coach Sian and her Tigers this year. Big thanks to .artiebrown for coordinating the event

This weekend hosted the 9/11 Memorial Bike ride. Participants had the option to ride for those fallen on 9/11. I rode for Thomas Gardner who was a 39-year-old member of the Fire Dept in New York. He gave his life 23 years ago, leaving his wife and two kids behind. I rode 78 miles which is the highest floor the rescue teams were able to reach #9/11

**NEW CASE ALERT***
I recently treated a patient who had a posterior knee dislocation. This type of injury in most cases is a high energy injury meaning there is a significant amount of force that needs to be applied to completely separate the tibia and femur. However, a largely elevated BMI can result in this same injury even if someone has a simple low energy injury such as a slip and fall. Orthopaedic surgeons must be on high alert because there are often injuries to the nerves and blood supply to the leg. This particular patient went into emergent surgery and was put in an external fixator after I realigned the joint. In few weeks the fixator will be removed. This injury will require a significant amount of physical therapy and is considered life changing.

From our office, Happy Juneteenth!! “Juneteenth has never been a celebration of victory, or an open acceptance of the way things are. Instead, it’s a celebration of progress. It’s an affirmation that despite the most painful parts of our history, things do get better. America can change.” -Barack Obama

Sandal weather is here and that means more bunions will be exposed. If your foot hurts and you don’t like the appearance of your bunions, a lapiplasty might be your answer. The procedure would not only correct your bunion but also the root cause of the bunion reducing your chances of the bunion returning. If you would like to know more visit my website and schedule with me today.

This weekend I am on orthopaedic call for the city meaning if you break your bones, get an infection in one of your limbs, or get shot or stabbed there is a chance you will need my services. In light of the unfortunate victims that I may meet this weekend, I took some time to read this article that discusses the mental skills needed to perform successful surgeries. Just like any skill set, there is a mental component to optimally performing surgeries. It is important to me to be prepared as possible to handle the challenges brought on by unforeseen life circumstances for my patients.

Do you like walking outside barefoot?Let me give you a reason to reconsider. I recently performed a procedure to remove the thorn photographed from a patient’s foot. The thorn was 2cm long and was embedded so deep in their foot that they had to be put under anesthesia to get it out. So, next time you think about going outside barefoot, remember there are thorns on the lookout for a warm foot to call home.

This person fell into a gopher hole at a wedding. The misstep resulted in distal tibial fracture with deformity. The patient presented to me after the bone had healed in an incorrect position called valgus and procurvatum. I corrrected her deformities using a joint preserving surgical procedure called a supramalleolar osteotomy of the tibia and fibula. The x-rays show the before and after. This patient is in recovery and doing well. If you ever find yourself falling into any holes, feel free to make an appointment with me at the Bone and Joint Clinic in Baton Rouge

It was a normal day until BAM you turn a corner and your motorcycle falls on you and causes a serious fracture to your lower leg. The pictures show the steps that were taken from the initial injury to the external fixator put in to reduce swelling, and realign the bones in preparation for the plate and screws that were put in to make sure the bones finish healing properly.
