The LOT Project: Matt 25:35-40

We are looking for local musicians interested in using their talents to lead worship at our ministry services! This is a wonderful opportunity to worship with fellow believers in a non-traditional setting.

The Gig: We have two church services per month (dates on our website) and have worship at every service. If you want to have a regular schedule (once a quarter?), GREAT! Or, you can come out as a one time thing to see how it goes. We usually sing 3 songs before the sermon, and 1 after. The “venue” is a parking lot, so there is no power. Acoustic sets are great, but if your instrument needs power, we do have a generator and sound equipment we can bring. Or you can bring your own! Our LOT friends like to sing along to the classics (old hymns), but they enjoy listening to any worship songs. We like to provide song sheets with the words to the songs so they can sing along if they like to. We always have a wonderful time singing praises together!

We are inviting local musicians to come lead worship for this amazing group!

We are proud of this awesome young man, Gary, who prayed with people twice his size and three times his age on Saturday. What a blessing!

This is a big ask, but I know we serve a BIG GOD! Our friend, Thomas, is in need of a new motorized wheelchair. His is quite run down and badly needs to be replaced. If you happen to have one like this in good working condition that you're ready to part with, please reach out!

Our services are GROWING! Praise God, we are seeing more people come regularly. We’ve been preparing 75 meals and have given out every plate of food at every service, so we’re bumping it to 100! That’s a GOOD thing!

One man told us recently that he waited all week to come see us because he’s been so lonely. People are hungry, yes, but they also hunger for relationship. Our prayer is that through our love and compassion, they will be drawn to the light of Jesus.

Please consider signing up for a volunteer date so that you, too, can be part of this work. We NEED you - we cannot do this alone!

WHAT DO VOLUNTEERS DO??? Help unload & set up tables and chairs, organize and hand out donations (clothes & hygiene), serve a meal, visit with people, pray with people, write down prayer requests, and then pack up at the end! There’s something for everyone to do!

Our friend D walked up when it was just starting to rain. I offered him a poncho, which he declined with a shake of the head. “No, no, no, no….” He said, “If I get wet, I get wet. What you do is when you get home, you turn the heater on. You get butt naked and dry off in the heater. I’m not afraid of no rain.”

😂😂😂

Everyone else must not have known the drying off trick, because we handed out a bunch of ponchos today!

If you ever see them on sale, grab us a sack full!

When a new volunteer walks away barefooted, you know the Holy Spirit was at work reminding us of how we are called to give out of our abundance.

One of our LOT friends walked up to service (across a blacktop highway into a semi-gravel lot) with no shoes on. Poor fella. The only shoes we had on hand that were even close to being his size were still too small. His heels hung two inches off the back. But then a volunteer offered his size 13s right off his feet without a second thought. The volunteers bent down and put a new pair of socks and the new shoes on his feet for him, and watched as he beamed with pride. After service and filling his belly, he walked away - sturdier than the way he arrived.

They might have been a favorite pair, or a worn down “back up” pair… but because the Lord provided those shoes to the volunteer out of His abundance, they became a blessing to a man who was in need.

Loving God and loving the people God sends our way means we must learn to loosely hold the things God gives us and be ready to show compassion in every way possible.

If you’re holding on to something too tightly, God can’t use it for the Kingdom.

We are thankful that the Lord continues to send compassionate volunteers to serve as the hands and feet of Jesus, shining a bright light in dark world and making a difference in the kingdom.

Our friend, D., donated a dollar out of his pocket to the ministry yesterday. I thanked him but said he didn’t have to do that. He assured me that he wanted to help us. He smiled and said, “What am I gonna buy with one dollar anyway?” I told him thank you again and said it would go towards these services to keep this ministry going. He said that sounded good, then rode off on his bicycle.

I could write a book of stories he has told me about his life. Earlier in the day, he was telling us about the time he was in prison. “The long timers used to bully me into buying them ci******es off the store. They’d make me call my people to put money on my books so I could order ci******es for them. But then if I ever needed to borrow one, I’d have to pay them back two for one. It was like a loan, but better cause there was no interest.”

He’s become a good friend to us over the years.

Our volunteers this week were from a Sunday School class at First Denham. They brought a delicious hot meal and served with huge smiles all day long. They even helped with BINGO! They had so much fun serving, they said they’ll be back for another date soon!

“When life gives you more than you can stand, kneel.” That’s what our prayer box says. A volunteer made this prayer box back and 2016, and it has collected thousands of prayer requests from our LOT friends over the years.

We hand out prayer request cards at all of our services and ask folks to share how we can be praying for them. You may assume that they only ask for money, but then you’d be surprised. MOST of the cards say things like, “pray for my family,” or “pray for our safety out here,” or “pray for my healing”.

The next time you stop at Walmart, would you consider picking up $20 worth of travel size hygiene supplies for us? We need deodorant, soap, shampoo, lotion, razors, washcloths, chapstick, toothpaste, reading glasses, bathing wipes, etc! Our command to love people is often put to the test when we are asked to love those that seem most unlovable. Maybe they smell bad. Maybe they’re really angry. Maybe they’re a criminal. Maybe they’re high. Maybe they do everything in their power to push us away. … BUT GOD - He still asks us to show them love. Not our kind of love, HIS kind of love. A love that serves with a smile, right after an insult. A love that pursues reconciliation, right after an outburst. A love that endures, in good times and bad. People we meet at LOT may not know the love of Christ, but our constant prayer is that they see it and feel it exemplified through us and that they then want to know the source of it.

As you remember this ministry in prayer, continue to thank the good Lord for faithfully sending amazing volunteers, bountiful resources, and constant wisdom. Thank you for your continued support - in every way!

GOD IS GOOD! It was a gorgeous afternoon Sunday! The volunteers from Galilee Baptist brought their A game and served their hearts out! We had a great worship service where we learned that all of us were created on purpose for a purpose. Then the team served the meal and handed out clothing & hygiene. Br. Tim couldn’t believe someone else wore a size 13 shoe, too. Ha!

Afterwards, a few folks stuck around to play BINGO, which is always a good time.

🙌 THANK YOU 🙌 to the 5th grade class from Parkview Baptist for choosing LOT for your service project again this year! HUGE BLESSING! They showed up in full force and spent the day organizing our storage room, sorting clothing donations, making PB&J sandwiches, cleaning the LOT van (full inside wipedown), and packing hygiene kits. They enjoyed game time, worship, and a great guest speaker, too! What a fun day!

It is so refreshing to have a group serve the ministry is this way. It was very much needed and completely appreciated.

Our awesome volunteers drove all the way down from Woodville, MS to serve today! 🙌♥️ They brought a delicious chili & cornbread, mmm mm good, and we served every drop! Erin led worship and Shay taught from the Word. We handed out a lot of canned goods, loads of blankets and jackets, and made sure everyone was ready for the weather that’s coming.
