“The best thing about Matt is he’s extremely motivated to continue the healing process after his amputation. He would work on his home exercise program and pre-prosthetic education before he was fitted with his prosthesis”, stated Marilu Major, PT in Outpatient Services at BRRH. Matthew Smith, 31 year old, had a below knee amputation over a year ago due to an infection. He works in the maintenance department at L’Auberge which requires him to be active and mobile. “The Zero G-balance and gait rehabilitation system has recently been updated at BRRH. Some of the new features gives the patient the ability to self correct once a fall has been prevented and continue with the activity. It also has a built-in system to challenge dynamic balance and postural control”, states Marilu. Matt said , “I am looking forward to going back to work next week full-time. The Zero G gave me security and ability to stumble without falling. I’m able to climb a ladder and move like I need to in order to return to work. My next goal is to start training in adaptive sports so I can compete at the Endeavor games in June with the Cajun Crushers team”. 💙 #batonrougerehabhospital #StrongerTogether #teamwork
