Let me be clear.
First, I want to thank everyone who has supported us during these challenging times.
For those who are still unaware of what happened, Councilwoman Denise Amarosa has made it her life’s mission to remove a black-owned business from her district. She has broken multiple laws, including using her personal cell phone to call the police to confiscate my property without a warrant. She threatened the landlord to prevent him from selling me the property and violated my First Amendment rights by demanding the removal of political campaign signs and a “Black Lives Matter” mural. She used her position and influence over agencies and the permit office to unlawfully shut us down. Despite having an Occupancy Permit since December 1, 2014, they claimed I did not have one. No other business has ever been targeted in such a manner. See ya for Cinco

In a significant move towards transparency, is cautiously navigating the truth, yet crucial details remain unaddressed. One must ask: Will they confront Councilwoman Denise Amorosa with the real questions? Why does she feel she’s above the law? Why does she continue to disregard legal boundaries, and how many more regulations will she bend in her refusal to admit fault? Furthermore, why does she believe it’s acceptable to inflict harm on my family and staff for her personal vendettas? Notably absent from the dialogue is the fact that the permit office granted me a 45-day extension, yet astonishingly, just two weeks later, I was cited for operating without a permit—a clear contradiction. Moreover, despite being in possession of a valid permit, the board, swayed by inaccuracies, unjustly accused me of unauthorized sales during the Super Bowl. Adding insult to injury, there’s a silence around the $10,000 worth of liquor still held by them, unjustly withheld from my business. The intricacies of language are being leveraged, unveiling a narrative where I, driven by necessity, have initiated legal action against what is widely recognized as a targeted campaign. This lawsuit stems from the actions of Councilwoman Amorosa, who, in her fervor, has seemingly embarked on a mission against my enterprise, challenging not only my rights but also the essence of fairness. Her attempts to suppress free expression—labeling a Black Lives Matter mural as ‘graffiti’ and demanding the removal of political signage—alongside her undue influence over regulatory bodies to disrupt my business, highlight a disregard for basic freedoms. The recent judicial order, a temporary restraining order (TRO), underscores the gravity of her overreach, yet her persistence in questioning the legitimacy of my lease, even in the face of legal restraint, signals an alarming defiance. It is a battle for truth and justice, and I am committed to this fight.

On God!
I want to address the misleading claims that I failed to properly apply for a special events permit in February. On April 25th, Councilwoman Denise Amarosa verbally committed to approving our request, with the stipulation that we conclude the event by 10pm. It’s important to note, however, that no Cinco de Mayo celebration in Baton Rouge traditionally ends at this time.
Despite this, evidence clearly shows that our event was indeed approved, albeit the official permit was only issued a few hours before the event was due to start. Subsequently, I faced public criticism and fines for several months, a narrative largely ignored by media outlets.
This situation has impacted not just me, but also my family, staff, and vendors, affecting our ability to serve our community effectively.
It’s time to set the record straight and share the actual facts. Is anyone interested in reporting the actual facts? Once I release these recordings, text messages, and emails, some may need to consider updating their resumes!
Dear and Board Members,
I must address the misleading narratives being circulated about Boil & Roux. Contrary to reports suggesting non-compliance, we have diligently and lawfully applied for all necessary permits related to renovations, modifications, and special events. It’s disheartening to see our efforts misrepresented, casting shadows over our commitment to operate within the bounds of the law.
The narrative that we disregard rules is not only false but overlooks the undue scrutiny and challenges we’ve faced, notably from the councilwoman Denise Amarosa and the ABC Board. We urge for a balanced portrayal that acknowledges our attempts to navigate these complexities in good faith.
Should there be interest in a more nuanced story, one that delves into the evidence we hold and the obstacles we’ve encountered, I am more than willing to provide insights. Let’s prioritize facts over sensationalism.
“I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our community for the overwhelming support, calls, and concerns during this challenging time. Your solidarity means the world to us, and we encourage you to continue supporting Boil & Roux as we navigate this ongoing struggle.
We also call upon all community leaders to stand with us in this fight for justice and fairness. Leadership is defined by action in times of adversity. Those who choose to stand on the sidelines should not claim the title of community leader.
Together, we are stronger. Double up and fall in! IYKYK!
Sincerely,
Maurice Walker
