Thank you, Lamar Advertising Company, for being a great ✨PYRAMID SPONSOR✨ for LASM's 39th Annual Gala: Party in the Valley of the Kings on Friday, Oct. 4!

Speaking of greatness, did you know that the Great Pyramid of Giza, built for Pharaoh Khufu more than 4,000 years ago, is the only Great Wonder still standing? 🔼

Estimated to be constructed over 27 years with 2.3 million stone blocks, this 5.75-million-ton marvel showcases extraordinary engineering.

Records show that the thousands of builders were paid, well-fed, and respected, and those who died during the construction were even buried near the site as a mark of honor. Once crowned with a golden capstone, this iconic structure remains a symbol of ancient Egypt’s grandeur. 🌅

Thanks to Lamar Advertising Company, our billboards shown throughout the city of Baton Rouge are a mark of their great work and stand tall to showcase our incredible upcoming gala on Oct. 4!

If you're ready to party like a pharaoh and directly support museum renovations so that we can continue to be great, go to givebutter.com/c/LASMGala2024 to sponsor us or get your gala ticket!

Thank you, queenofsparkles, for being an inspiring ✨NEFERTITI SPONSOR✨ for LASM's 39th Annual Gala: Party in the Valley of the Kings on Friday, Oct. 4!

Jaime Glas Odom, the founder and owner of Queen of Sparkles, was also honored as a "Star of BR" and was a raffle model for last year's "Out of this World" Gala.

In today's , explore Queen Nefertiti's limestone reliefs and see how both Queen Nefertiti and the Queen of Sparkles radiate life and leadership! 👑

Akhenaten, son of Amenhotep III, led a brief monotheistic revolution in ancient Egypt by worshipping the Aten, the Sun Disk, and built a temple complex with a fascinating mystery.

Interestingly, Queen Nefertiti appears more often than Akhenaten in these reliefs, which come from a limestone talatat block used during Akhenaten's reign to construct the Aten temples. After the temples fell out of favor, they were dismantled and repurposed for the Great Temple of Amun.

Just in front of her nostril is the ankh or symbol of life, being given to her by Aten, the sun, so that she may breathe in the god's gift of life. Like Nefertiti, the "Queen of Sparkles" Jaime Glas Odom is a vivacious queen through her service.

Thanks again, queenofsparkles, for your support as a Nefertiti sponsor for this year's Gala!

If you're interested in becoming a sponsor or attending the most unique and best party in town, visit givebutter.com/c/LASMGala2024 to directly support the museum's renovations!

🚂✨ We are thrilled to recognize Canadian Pacific Railway as a ✨TUTANKHAMUN SPONSOR✨ for LASM's 39th Annual Gala: Party in the Valley of the Kings on Oct. 4! 🎉

This gala pays homage to some of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th century — like the tomb of Tutankhamun, which remained undisturbed for over 3,300 years in Egypt's Valley of the Kings until Howard Carter's team unearthed it in 1922. Inside were over 5,000 precious artifacts, carefully preserved after millennia.

Among these treasures lies a sarcophagus guarded by four goddesses: Isis, Selqit, Nepthys, and Neit, who protect King Tut's eternal resting place. 🛡️👑

Join us as we celebrate history, art, and legacy, and thank Canadian Pacific Railway for helping make this magical night possible! ✨

Today, we acknowledge Jones Walker LLP in gratitude for becoming a ✨NEFERTITI SPONSOR✨ at LASM's 39th Annual Gala: Party in the Valley of the Kings on Oct 4!

Nefertiti, the beloved wife of Pharaoh Ramesses II, was honored with one of Egypt's most stunning tombs, filled with vibrant wall paintings.

This watercolor shows Queen Nefertiti (left) being guided by the goddess Isis (right). Interestingly, Ramesses II is absent, highlighting Nefertiti's unique status that allowed her to interact directly with the gods—a privilege reserved only for royals! 🌟

Isis, a goddess of motherhood and magic, was seen symbolically linked to Nefertiti, Egypt’s powerful queen, as both embodied feminine strength, wisdom, and protection—Isis in the divine realm and Nefertiti as a leader. 🌺🦅

Nefertiti's legacy reflected the ideals of Isis, guiding and nurturing their people with lasting influence. 🌾💫

Thanks again to Jones Walker LLP for their support so that we may renovate our museum and nurture the community like Nefertiti with the we provide!

We are immensely grateful to the Pennington Family Foundation for being a ✨CLEOPATRA SPONSOR✨ at LASM's 39th Annual Gala: Party in the Valley of the Kings on Oct 4!

Read on to find out why Cleopatra and Mark Antony, notorious party animals, would have LOVED to celebrate like royals with us for this year's gala! 🤩 🪩

Cleopatra, a brilliant and wealthy Egyptian ruler, and Antony, a powerful Roman leader, joined forces after Caesar's assassination. Antony relied on Cleopatra's wealth for his military campaigns, while Cleopatra needed Antony's protection to secure her son's claim as Caesar's heir.

Their alliance flourished in Alexandria, a city thriving under Cleopatra's rule, with a vibrant artistic, cultural, and scholarly renaissance where the two indulged in lavish parties and extravagant bets together.

The art depicts a fabled scene where Cleopatra dissolves a priceless pearl in vinegar and drinks it to win the most expensive dinner bet against Antony. Needless to say, she won! 👑

Look for our next Cleopatra post to continue the story of these two, but for now, many thanks again to the Pennington Family Foundation! 👏

We sincerely thank The Dudley W. Coates Family for their support as a ✨TUTANKHAMUN SPONSOR✨ at our 39th Annual Gala: Party in the Valley of the Kings on Friday, October 4!

In November 1922, British archaeologist Howard Carter discovered a sealed stairway leading to King Tutankhamun's tomb. A century later, this momentous find remains one of the most significant events in the history of Egyptian archaeology.

At least 80 sandals were found in King Tut's tomb, intended for his afterlife. Some were well-preserved, while others were mere fragments of foot straps. The best-preserved were the gold sandals on King Tut’s mummy.

The inner soles of an elaborate marquetry veneer pair of sandals shown, now aged 3,300 years old, are illustrated with four bows. The captives represent the traditional enemies of Egypt whom the king symbolically trod on when wearing the sandals.

Thanks again to The Dudley W. Coates Family for supporting museum renovations with their support!
