Krewe of Southdowns – Flambeaux Parade
Inspired by the Mardi Gras flambeauxs he encountered in New Orleans in the ‘70s during his residency at medical school, when Dr. Will Gladney came back to his old neighborhood in his hometown of Baton Rouge to pursue his medical career he sought to inject a bit of New Orleans Mardi Gras into his Baton Rouge neighborhood. Dr. Gladney formed the Krewe of Southdowns in 1988 and the Krewe of Southdowns Flambeaux Parade was born.

The Krewe of Southdowns is looking for volunteers to help with parade command! The Krewe of Southdowns is a not for profit parade which is put on by the citizens of the community. Come and join our 37 year tradition of culture and entertainment! Here are a few tasks with which we can use a hand:
Pre-parade day preparations. Organizing safety vests and radios, assist with float preparations prior to parade day.
Parade day parking lot helpers. Be present at Glasgow elementary on parade day (February 9) 2-3 hours before the parade to help with float and group lineups, safety checks, and organization.
Parade night safety walkers. Walk the parade route during the parade along side an assigned 1-3 parade elements, while maintaining communications with other command safety walkers via walkie talkie.
Truck and driver to tow a float. One of the oldest krewes in Southdowns is in need of a truck and driver to pull their legendary float. Need to attend the mandatory driver's safety meeting on February 5, and line up for the parade no later than 5:30pm.
