The students planned every aspect of a carnival for next week's field day activities.
Today they practiced by running the carnival for Valley View's 5th graders who were here for a school visit. They set up the carnival, worked the games, and helped put everything away.
The students did amazing!!! The 5th graders had so much fun. Mission accomplished!
8th graders making progress. Plants went into today.... specifically picked to attract pollinators.

This year, our Student Council and PSE team hosted monthly grade level celebrations. Our students and staff were cheered in by the Student Council and silly games were played. Promoting positive school culture is important and these groups did a great job doing just that.
Congrats to the Bearcat Class of 24
This visit was special. How awesome it is to have our students exposed to amazing individuals who show them hard work pays off!
Our 6th graders are learning about how our local community handles lost and abandoned pets for their service learning project. The Calhoun County Animal Center came this morning to educate our students on local responses, daily tasks and chores, how to adopt, what volunteers do, and what needs they have.
Captain and Ollie were crowd favorites.
In the next two weeks, our students will be learning about upcycling.. making dog toys out of donated used tshirts and collecting money/ supplies to donate to the shelter.
Feel free to drop off dog or cat food, peanut butter, or Kong toys (requests from the shelter)
Our students are learning how to be a part of the solution to meet the challenges around them.llll

Over the next two weeks they were be learning about pollinators and their importance to the food chain.
They will spend a morning at the Leila Arboretum learning from local experts.
They will become a part of the solution by adding a ring to our SMS pollinator garden. They will plant flowers that nourish pollinators and help contribute to the local ecosystem.
They started Friday with cleanup and building two benches.
If you drop off your student, check out our progress in the coming days.
Congrats to our SMS Bearcats of the Week!
8th grade science students are dissecting owl pellets to determine what they have eaten. They eventually will reconstruct the whole skeleton to determine if it is a shrew, bird, mole, rodent, or vole. Thanks Mrs McCrumb for allowing our students to engage in such an engaging lab.
Today our Young Men of Potential Group, as part of their service learning project, visited the Wright and the Detroit Institute of Art.
The Wright celebrates African American History. The students will use the experience to inspire a cultural art installation at SMS. We cannot wait to see what they come up with.
Thank you to Mr.Holmes and Mr. Payne for organizing and to Coach Blair, Ms Joy, and Coach Farrod for chaperoning!
