Day 27 of our 30-day plank challenge awaits us! Let's spend a bit of time working our core together again today🎉.
This isometric core engagement work should not cause pain. Rather, you should feel things warming up and "worked" in the muscles of the stomach, upper legs, and between your shoulder blades. If something does hurt, consider dropping to your knees or elevating your upper body onto a higher surface. Make sure to maintain a straight line from your shoulders to your ankles (or knees, if you've dropped to your knees).

Although today is a rest day from our 30-day plank challenge, we have yet another plank variation for you to ponder trying for tomorrow. Consider trying a side plank! You can complete this on your elbow or hand for the upper body support and from your knee or foot for the lower body support!

Here are some muscles that benefit from the side plank:
✅Muscles of the shoulder girdle
✅Obliques (side of the core)
✅Neck muscles
✅Glutes (your buttocks muscles)
✅Hip abductors and (muscles that bring your leg away from the midline).

Don't forget to switch to the other side at the half-way point!

03/23/2024

Time to get your plank on today! Be sure to take any and all modifications you need to succeed! Remember, you're welcome to start in a low (on forearms) or high (on hands) plank and then drop down to your knees if you need. Or, consider elevating your chest higher than your feet by placing your forearms or hands on a coffee table, bed, or chair. Your plank should feel like work, but it should not be painful.

Finding a soft surface to do your plank on might just be the ticket you need to keep your forearms happy! You could try:
✅A rolled up yoga mat under your forearms
✅Plank on your bed
✅Put your forearms on a low couch and keep your feet on the floor
✅Place a folded towel under your forearms
✅Shift your weight side-to-side slightly from forearm to forearm throughout
✅Or, shift your weight forward and backwards slightly on your toes by flexing and extending your ankles

Whatever your body needs today, provide it that option!

Our Story

Select Therapy opened its doors in August of 2003 with just a single physical therapist and a mission to provide quality, patient-based care in a friendly environment. While our staff has certainly grown since that first day, our mission remains the same: to help patients throughout central Minnesota meet their health goals.

With 45 minutes of direct patient-therapist care at each visit, we work hard to get our patients better–faster. Whether it’s relief from chronic headaches, a speedy return to work after an injury, or rehabilitation after surgery, the therapists at Select Therapy will make your health goal their top priority.

7 Convenient locations: Baxter, Crosslake, Pierz, Inver Grove Heights, Pine River, Pequot Lakes, Takedown Gym.
