"One of the cutest beings on this planet, an opossum, also one of the most misunderstood. They are marsupials, they do not transmit rabies and are indispensable for pest control, they are naturally docile and gentle, and when scared they show their teeth and hiss to appear menacing, but when they are terrified they don't "play" possum - they quite literally faint from fear - so do not harm them!"

In 1835, Washington Irving (author of such classics as “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” and “Rip Van Winkle”) bought a two-room Dutch stone house on the banks of the Hudson. He expanded and extensively remodeled the building, adding Tudor-style clustered chimneys, Dutch stepped gables, Gothic windows, and a Spanish tower. Irving also made the grounds more picturesque, planting trees in carefully chosen locations and creating hills, a pond, and a meandering stream with a waterfall. Today, both the house and grounds have been restored to look much as they did in the 1850s. Many of the original furnishings remain, while the wisteria vine Irving planted by the front door continues to bloom each spring. Winding trails throughout the estate afford superb vistas of the river and the landscape, and visitors can walk between Sunnyside and Lyndhurst via the Old Croton Aqueduct Trail.

Happy Birthday to the incomparable Pete Seeger on what would be his 104th birthday. As an iconic folksinger, environmental activist, and the creator of a vessel as remarkable and enduring as the sloop Clearwater, he is an irreplaceable person. Mom life😁
“She would have been 7 years old on Feb 27. I rescued her when she was 2 days old. She had been released several times and always stayed close to home. she came back to give birth to her babies. Watching her delivery and raising her kits was the most amazing experience I have ever had being a rehabber. She was a fighter, she survived distemper, she was poisoned, several different attacks in the wild. The distemper left her with neurological issues, that point she was deemed non-releasable. She has been indoors with me for almost 5 years now. Her and I have been so much together. We both dependent on each other she could make it without me and I couldn't make it without her. The bond that her and I developed with each other was like no other that I've ever experienced. NAWTY fell asleep on my chest her last night and when I woke up she was still laying on my chest she looked up at me and licked my chin once then took a few deep breaths and she was gone. My heart is hurting so bad. I am totally lost without her. She was my soulmate there's no words that can describe how much I loved her. Thank you for accepting me into this group. And I'm sending my heartfelt condolences to all that have lost their love. Many blessings to you all.

I took a picture of my new pattern. It's simple, but I made it with all my heart. I hope I get some compliments. I will be very happy!

A super bloom is a rare desert botanical phenomenon in which many wildflowers whose seeds have lain dormant in desert soil germinate and blossom at roughly the same time.
This photo was captured during the California super bloom of 2019, and photographer Ryan Resatka promises: “No flowers were harmed in the making of this photo, the person is standing in an open path, and I’m on the edge of a bend from another.”

Dream house. Bucharest. Romania.
When it gets really cold bluebirds roost together in a pile using their collective body heat to help them survive. They arrange themselves so they don’t smother and alternate positions within the pile.
