I started CrossFit almost a year ago. The gym I managed and coached at devastatingly closed down and I needed a place to call home. I had always wondered what CrossFit was all about, so I gave it a try and immediately was hooked. The WODs are much different than what I was used to, but I love the challenge. My current goals are to continue working towards doing more Rx WODs, and to participate in more comps. After competing in my first one in April, I’m hooked! I’d love to compete each month for the rest of 2024 if I’m able.
Aubre
I started to explore the world of CrossFit last Fall after a year away from the gym and a regular fitness routine. Unfortunately I had a stroke in September of 2022 and needed to take a pause from gym life. My wife, Aubre, had tried Iliad and loved the coaches and community of members. She suggested I try it out to see what CrossFit was all about. My goals started with a simple focus to get back to a regular fitness routine. I’ve become more comfortable with the movements and have reset my goals to include more challenges like the Festivus Games competition that was completed this month.
Here’s to being more focused, deliberate, and strong for your future self.

I came back to the CrossFit world apprehensively after my current gym closed abruptly and without notice. I needed a place and knew a couple people from my gym were trying out Iliad. From the moment I stepped foot into Iliad I knew I wouldn’t leave. I was welcomed with open arms and a safe, loving environment. The Coaches have been nothing but supportive and push me to be better with each class. They also check on me and make sure I’m ok without yelling or getting in my face :) I absolutely love the community and it’s honestly the highlight of my day. I have some major weight loss goals ahead and I’m right on track with those. I also would love at some point next year to do my first CrossFit competition! 😬 Looking forward to the future and spending it with people that care about my well being! 🫶🏼

My Crossfit journey has been a bit inconsistent. I played lacrosse at Savannah College of Art and Design, graduating in 2018. After having practiced 6 days a week and being on the road most weekends I was excited to take a break from sports but didn't realize how hard it would be to find a routine. After college I was living in Kennesaw, Georgia, and took a year off from fitness. My old teammate Lauren dragged me to a Crossfit class, and I ended up getting hooked. I loved having a community again, but Covid made it difficult to stay in a routine.
I ended up moving back to Oregon in 2021 and joined Iliad. I started coming a few days a week but when winter hit, I started coaching High school lacrosse and had a hard time making it to class. Even when I take a 3-month break, I am always welcomed back to Iliad. Coach Jessie, Zach and Erik have made it such a fun environment and have really helped me improve my lifts. I love going to the 5 am class even if I am half asleep during the warmups. I am so grateful for the new friends I have made and to have a support system again.

I wandered into my first crossfit class over Memorial Day weekend in May of 2013. I don’t remember what my very first wod was, but I vividly remember my second one. It was Murph, and in a sick and twisted way I was hooked. I loved the way pushing myself in the workouts made me faster and stronger. In 2015 I got my L1 certificate and spent several years as a coach as well. I enjoyed coaching other athletes and watching them overcome fears and doubts to achieve their goals.
In Nov of 2019 I excitedly joined CrossFit Iliad, excited for Jessie and Zach’s new venture.
However, in the beginning of 2020, a promotion at work sent me to nightshift and no matter how I tried, getting into Iliad (or working out generally) just wasn’t happening. I tried to find some sort of consistency working out on my own around the chaotic schedule, but it was extremely challenging. Despite not being a member of Iliad during this time, I continued to follow them and cheer them on from afar, as they successfully managed to survive opening a gym during probably the most difficult time in history to do so!
At the end of 2022, I found myself back on a normal(ish) schedule and out of shape, needing to do something to get myself healthy again. I reached out to Jessie and Zach and decided to commit to trying to make it work. I haven’t looked back. I find myself going to bed each night looking forward to getting up for the 6am class. I like to get there a little early and watch Molly B in the 5am to decide how hard the workout is going to be that day 😂
I’m thankful for the Iliad community and the opportunity to push myself daily to be better.
