As per Governor Hogan’s presser today, Nov 17, I am still authorized to practice massage therapy because I am classified as an LMT, my practice is considered a health office and is private. I use a mask and I have the COVID headrest insert to ensure greater protection for client and myself.

After Hogans presser, I wish to remind massage clients that I do have a plexiglass Covid shield that blocks “droplets”. This is in addition to mask wearing.

What will you do with that extra hour of sleep that begins on Nov 1st. Since we “fall back” an hour, I am offering a “fall back” in pricing to my original costs for 1 hour and 90 minute massages respectively. $50 for an hour and $75 for the 90 minute. As per that fact that I am an LMT and not an RMT I am allowed to begin practicing massage again. This is the first time in my life that my associates degree has actually benefitted me in the workforce.

I’ve been getting a lot of calls and texts asking if I can give them a massage now. The simple answer is no😪, but I can offer a great GC sale. Lets call it the Corona special: 20$ off of any service lasting 45 minutes or longer and my usual fee is 1$ per minute. As soon as I am giving the all clear to open, I will contact these recipients first! I can take Venmo, PayPal, check in the mail (or cash under the doormat) lol.

I’ve been thinking about how I might adapt my home based massage practice in the wake of COVID 19.

I will continue to allow 30 minutes between clients and I will use that time to do additional sanitizing of the face rest, door handles all around my entry ways, massage room and bathroom fixtures. Fresh clean sheets are always used for each client.

A benefit of having a home based practice is that I don’t have a steady stream of the public coming through my workspace so the germ factor is very low.

I used disposable gloves with my last two clients prior to the shutdown and both of them really liked the friction that gloves provide with the lotion. I found it easier to control my pressure. Also, I always wondered why in massage we never wore gloves in making contact with the body when in the medical field they ALWAYS wear gloves when making contact. I will also wear my own face mask during massage sessions, at least until things settle down in this new world we are living in.

It is already common knowledge that when one is not feeling well, receiving a massage is a bad idea as it will only make one feel worse. I will speak to this when setting appts and doing confirmation calls/texts.

I just received a directive from the governing board in Maryland to stop offering massage at this time, as it is impossible to remain 6 feet away while at the same time touching a client. I’m sorry to have to cancel all appointments. I will be honoring all discounts and lucky coins when I am given the green light to open up again. Stay safe and hopeful and prayerful during this time.
