Hello all! This is a 1988 Yamaha C3 grand piano; it is for sale by a customer of mine. This is an absolute gem of a piano, from the coveted "best era" of Yamaha pianos. It has been tuned regularly by my Dad, and then me after he retired. It has a full Dampp-chaser humidity control system (upgraded from the old one last year), and is in exellent condition.

I tuned this unique and nice sounding/playing piano yesterday. It is a 1930's George Steck "coffin case" baby grand.

Free piano alert!! I was contacted by someone who is trying to find a home for their mother's piano. It is a Chickering from 1955. I have not seen it in person, but will try to evaluate it Sunday. They would like it to find a home this weekend if at all possible.

Yet another first for me!
This is a 1863 Steinway & Sons square piano. I was called in and asked to evaluate it's condition, and if possible get it functioning (it was NOT!) and tuned. I was a bit hesitant to commit, as most technicians warn against the burdens and hassles of such outdated instruments: they are of obsolete design, replacement parts are hard/impossible to come by, a special tuning lever is required to tune, it is physically awkward to tune, and the best of shape they are known to sound far inferior to modern pianos.

I'm happy to report that I was able to get it fully functioning and in tune!

Another first for me! This is an old overdamped vertical piano made in England. Often called a "birdcage" piano, due to the damper wires caging in (blocking!) the action. The main challenge was muting the strings, which are also blocked by the "cage", and the bleed through from the, uh, interestingly designed "dampers". It turned out great, and the customers were very happy!

This pic is from a job a few weeks ago. It's a first for me, an upright piano made in DDR. Check out that plastic hammer fl**ge.

New customer's piano. Old Steinway upright, "needed tuning, and has a few broken strings". I found MANY broken strings, and MANY more broke upon my first tuning (pitch raise). The cause? Long ago this piano got wet after a neighbors apartment fire. The restoration company probably towel dried it, and ran some fans/dehumidifiers by it. . . . .but they left the wet felt padding under the strings up by the tuning pins, and this corroded the wire. Be careful who you have for restoration work, seems like a prime feeding ground for sheisters!

I often get asked what my favorite upright piano manufacturer is. My answer is definitely Knight, made in England. A great piano, they're used @
BBC studios, etc., and also on many famous recordings (Beatles, etc.).

Tuned a nice 9 foot Steinway for a Tap-dancing show tomorrow night at Coppin State. Check it out if you can!

New customer today! Oldfields School in Glencoe, Baltimore County. I serviced three of their Steinway grands. Ahh, if only all music rooms had Steinway grands! It was a good day. I double tuned all three, and serviced two Damp-Chaser units in around seven hours. Comments recieved included, "that piano has never sounded so good!", and I can't wait to hear them all!". Very nice people throughout. I'm entertaining the possibility of it as a school for my daughter. Uh, donations anybody? :)
