Great day although long and hot! Thanks to hcpl bel air firehouse, Chuck Moore and town of Bel Air! Our staff was fantastic volunteers life savers!

Had the meeting w summer camp teachers and staff today. Let me share that the room was filled with energy enthusiasm and excitement. We have the best staff who feel just as lucky as I do to be able to spend time w our kids! Over 220 registered for This year!! Bring it on!

On May 5, 2023 our then didactic year students were awarded their short white coats before they began their clinical year 🥼🩺 Being donned with a short white coat is an incredible honor, because it signifies the hard work and dedication that these students have endured throughout their didactic year. It also represents the knowledge and confidence that these students have acquired during that time and means that they are ready to embark on their clerkships. The GW PA program is incredibly proud of the Class of 2024, and wishes them luck on their first clinical rotation which they are currently on!

Congratulations to Madina Sabirova from Harford Technical High School! This week she was elected the Student Member of the Board for the 2023-2024 school year!

Saturday mornings are filled with some blessings. I get to work w dedicated staff that come to work for the members, I get to delve into data to ensure we are doing what we said and what our members need. I get to give calm to members who come in after being harassed at work, wronged in the community, and overseen in the workforce. It is a busy Saturday morning but it is worth every minute. A member said as he left today, “ I feel the burden has lessened, thank you.”

The Bel Air Haunts and History tour season is officially over for 2022 and I wanted to thank so many of our ”friends” who helped spread the word as well as gave of their time and talents as actors or tour guides!! LASOS does a lot of work w kids in school and this week our work was a little different. While with the kids in one of the programs , the comment about holiday pajamas to wear for school came up. One child said under her breathe I don’t have any. Perhaps it was elf on the shelf that over heard that and whispered it to me but we knew we could fix that!! So off the store I went. And at 9;45 at night a knock at her door and a smile from ear to ear on her face. I saw her yesterday in those pants. But I really saw a sense of belonging, being loved, and being seen. Sometimes it’s not the big gestures it’s the small ones at the right moment. So I too wish you all days filled with rest, belonging, love and worth. Happy Holidays!

10 months ago we were working and a new member walked in. Broken. COVID had closed the restaurant she worked at, she had just miscarried without health care, couldn’t pay her rent, utilities or bills. After intake she was to meet with me. Courageous conversations happened that night. She went from mad to sad, to fine I can do this with help. And that she has. She came to see us and to say thank you. For believing in her, so for encouraging her, and to share that yesterday she had enough money to pay CASH for her first home. She stood up!! We walked beside her as she made it here and never did she feel alone. And I wish you could have seen her face, seen her tears of gratitude and achievement. What we do is hard. But this news was a gift. That I now share with you, a small glimpse of one of the things we do at LASOS!

Huge thank you to Shoprite Sarah Klein, Nestor Hernandez and the wonderful LaSOS staff for their help tonight w our Winter food distribution. This is a chance to ensure our families have food for the holidays. The biggest gift is we are able to see our members and check in and celebrate with them! Yea!!

Small blessings filled with lots of love and compassion! That’s what some of our families will recibe today from members of the Bel Air community.

As we are getting ready for the winter months, we are also preparing for holiday season. Both times can be very hard on our families. The work hours seem shorter, expenses for heat higher and things can get a little tight. If you are in the spirit of giving this season here is a list of some things we could use to share with our families:

In the mood to volunteer? We could use some help this Friday evening from 5-8:30 with a food distribution at Bel Air HIgh! We are working with some fabulous partners and are able to offer boxes of fresh fruit veggies and more to our most fragile populations! We are following strict CDC guidelines and it is a contactless drop. Food is pre sorted. We will be outside so bring a hat, mask and water. If you can help please let me know... if you can't please send great vibes for no rain during that time, along with a safe distribution. Also I actually could use two people with trucks Friday morning to pick up the Bread if you are open to that please let me know! As we sit on the last day of this decade, I think about the journey it has been. 10 years of providing services to the most vulnerable in our county. over 75,000 services provided, and 9000 lives touched. We have seen people overcome barriers that would have only crumbled others, we have seen new businesses developed through our members, women overcome traditional expectations and lift their families out of poverty, our young members graduate top of the class and not only attend colleges but graduate with honors thrusting their families into self-sustainability.

We have felt the crunch of the American society and politics but with your love and support we have overcome and continue to hold tight. Our partnerships we have developed over the years have provided the links to success to allow us to be the place people come when most in need.

I often get asked what can I do to help? I always respond continue to send good wishes, to keep our weak in your heart and if you have time, talents or treasure to share they are more than welcome!

I am looking forward to a great start to a new decade! A decade filled with support, love, compassion and energy. If you feel in your heart you want to be a part in any way please let me know!
