Baked black cherry chopsticks π₯’π
So this was created by ZF Camunmaker of Italy for a contest. This is the Smith/maker that forged my carving axe. It's an understatement to say that this guy is not only a wonderful blacksmith but also has a very keen eye for design. Absolutely love this piece β€οΈ
Set of chopsticks and a rest. Carved from black cherry with a sweeping design on the ends. After drying these may end up being baked or painted, unsure as of yet π
Black cherry round all split up. I managed to make billets for a bowl/kuksa, 2 spoons, a spreader and possibly chopsticks. Hopefully the wood allows for it all. I've tried to utilize every piece and minimize waste, hidden in there is a piece for a pendant as I sometimes make myself or friends one from time to time. Let the fun begin! πͺπ
Last night I pulled this black cherry log from the freezer and put it in the basement to thaw overnight. I wrapped it in a garbage bag, hopefully it's thawed out by now and ready to become a kuksa or bowl! πͺππ
In 2022 I carved a kolrosed spoon as a wedding gift to a fellow carver and in response he sent me one as well, this became my favorite spoon that I own and use often. There is something about it. I decided to try my hand at replication, I usually end up carving utensils with quite a bit of crank involved which some may think is a difficult part of spoon carving but as this particular spoon doesn't have a lot of crank this proved difficult, coupled with string chamfers along and around the handle, it made me step out of the usual style I carve in. The original is walnut I believe but I used salted black cherry as that is what I have on hand. I ended up changing the tip of the handle but everything else I tried to replicate the best I could. It was a wonderful experience and I learned a lot while carving it π thank you Gabe Bayles for the wonderfully carved spoon my friend, it gets used often! ππ
Decided to go for it and paint the wedge on another axe using the same paint but wanted to see what the entire wedge looked like painted π
600g Stubai axe ( my first axe dedicated to carving) with a cherry handle carved by yours truly, apple wedge, now painted green. I love it! π
Black cherry log split and processed into some billets, ultimately using some of it for this spoon. I am trying to take elements from my favorite spoon by a friend and fellow carver, stepping out of my comfort zone a little bit. When it's dried and finished, I'll post photos π
Leaf green for the win! Happy because it's brighter than I remembered. I chose to only paint the top of the wedge ππ
Temporary splash of color for my axe wedge. Which would you choose? π
Took a smaller log out of the freezer to make a cooking spoon, cut the end off and saw how gorgeous this wood will be. Cannot wait to take the axe to it! Also, forgot to put this up but my wonderful wife got this piece for me to hang up in the carving room, the moose is loose π«π
Finished. Not sure whether to call this a cooking spoon or a ladle? Either way I'm happy with the turnout π
Managed to cut down below where the split reached. Cleaned up well, hope it works ππ

Google maps caught me carving a spoon! My son informed me that he saw me on Google maps, so I looked and sure enough here I was. They blurred my face and one hand as I was holding a spoon in one hand and a sloyd in the other πππͺ
Templates . . Some of us use them and some don't. I sometimes use them when I want a few of the same items. I have tried binder dividers, mylar sheeting and even milk containers. I recently came across a material that is a polymer made from recycled plastics that is USDA approved for use in food prep facilities. This is 1/16 inches thick (1.57 mm) and as such is very easy to trace around yet bendable enough to follow a well established crank in a billet. Made by a company called Parkland Plastics, Lowes carries it πAnyway, just figured I'd share. π
Had a few minutes, two gouges and a drawknife. Can't wait to finish this one and get to carve some bowls and kuksas π³πͺ΅
Suggestions?
Simple cooking spoon from black cherry. Carved over 2 weeks ago this had a natural bend in the branch. Baked finish.
Can't wait to get back to this crazy mess π

Black cherry tree dropped by my house ππ³
Happy 4th of July! This spoon is carved from river birch and baked. Decided to put a minimal and subtle chip carve near the end of the handle. Hoping you all have a great night!
