Thank you Cascade FC for allowing us to sponsor your annual golf tournament that raises money for player scholarships Great way to give back to the community that our attorneys and their families are a part of. And honorable mention to PLG injury attorney Ryan Pauley and team (pictured below) who placed sixth! Great work to all involved! Go Cascade FC!
The Three Strikes Law has so many problems with it. One of our attorneys, Ryan Pauley, had his first case dealing with the injustices of it. Fortunately him and the staff of Seattle U School of Law were able to obtain clemency for someone who was a victim of it. Great work to those who tirelessly work to have it struck down.
A new report on Washington's Three Strikes Law, co-published by Seattle University School of Law's Civil Rights Clinic and the Fred T. Korematsu Center for Law and Equality, dives into the history and impact of the Three Strikes Law, explaining that the law operates with undeniable racial inequity without making our communities safer. The report tells the personal stories of five people impacted by the law and suggests recommendations, including abolishing the Three Strikes Law altogether. The report begins and concludes with words from Raymond Williams, a journalist and advocate who is currently serving a death in prison sentence under the law. Lots of people are asking questions about increased insurance rates This story may answer some questions
Insurance companies must explain rate hikes under the first-of-its-kind rule in Washington The new transparency rule, established by the Office of the Insurance Commissioner, applies to auto and homeowner's insurance policies.
Bosch Technology is developing a vehicle system to alert drivers if they are going the wrong way. It’s amazing drivers actually need this technology but anything to make our roads safer is a step forward.
Friends of local crash victim develop wrong-way driver alert concept New emergency alert systems, including a concept developed by friends of a North Texas crash victim, could provide critical, life-saving warnings about wrong-way drivers and prevent deadly head-on collisions.
So many legal issues with self driving cars which still aren’t safe. For example, who is legally repsonsible for a person’s injuries if the self driving car caused the wreck? The auto manufacturer? Think it will care about the injured person?
Driver was using Tesla auto-pilot feature at time of deadly crash in Snohomish County The 56-year-old told a state trooper he was behind the motorcycle on eastbound state Route 522 east of Maltby when he looked down at his cellphone.
Washington now has the ability to regulate stores and manufacturers who continues to sell pots and pans with dangerous amounts of led Great work WA legislature!
'A huge win': Washington becomes first state to regulate lead content in metal cookware The new law comes after years of King County scientists and the Afghan Health Initiative researching why Afghan immigrants had high levels of lead in their blood.
Four of these signs will be located throughout King County. One of the many things the County is doing following the deadliest year in the County for traffic accidents Stay healthy and stay safe
New signs on King County roads can detect if you're texting and driving The signs use infrared technology to detect unsafe driving habits. They can tell if you're not wearing a seatbelt and if you're holding your phone.
A great program to keep everyone safer on the City or Seattle’s sidewalks
'I feel proud': Youth-led push for accessible sidewalk in Seattle pays off Fiercely determined, Charlie Howe launched a campaign with Disability Rights Washington that caught city hall's attention.
Well whoever has to pay will try to pass on the cost to other insureds by raising their premiums and claiming they are perceived as a higher risk. This is why we need excellent and honest folks in elected office like the Insurance Commissioner. Senator Patty Kueder in Washington State is running for this position in Washington State and she will do a fantastic job keep insurers honest in Washington State.

RIP Professor McGee and thank you for everything.
It is again with a heavy heart that we share the sad news that Professor Emeritus Henry “Hank” McGee, Jr., a beloved faculty member, teacher, colleague, and friend to so many, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday at the age of 91. He joined the faculty in 1994, becoming Seattle U Law’s first ever tenured professor of color, after many years at UCLA School of Law, where he achieved emeritus status.
Prior to this, he had a long and distinguished career as a prosecutor, a litigator in private practice, and a regional director of legal services for the U.S. Office of Economic Opportunity. In 1965, during the Freedom Summer, Professor McGee represented members of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) who had been arrested for helping register African American voters.
On behalf of our entire community, we express our deepest condolences to his spouse, former Seattle University Professor Victoria Kill. We are fortunate to have counted Professor McGee among our dearest colleagues and friends for so many years of his remarkable life.

Chevron Deference isnt just preferring Chevron gasoline over all others. Though to be fair Chevron gasoline is far superior. It also means that an agency’s decision is given significant deference by a court when the agency is in intepretting laws the agency is designed to implement. Hope it stays that way. If SCOTUS changes that we will all be stuck with a decision which is the equivalent of ARCO gas.
Scholar explains implications of SCOTUS revisiting ‘Chevron deference’— Harvard Gazette Law School’s Jody Freeman pinpoints key question: “Who decides when laws aren’t clear — courts or agencies?”

Happy Veterans Day to all the veterans and their families! Most of us have a personal story about a veteran in our lives. Here is ours.
Walter always wanted to be an attorney. However when he was in his twenties, the age group in which many people attend law school, he decided to serve his country instead. He enlisted in the army and was deployed to Europe where he fought in France and Luxenberg. Eventually he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and returned home a decorated war veteran.
Walter began working and between marrying and having a family he never went to law school. Instead he pursued his entrepreneurial side and started and ran many different businesses. Later in life one of his son's went on to law school and did what Walter never had the opportunity to do, practice law. That son then had two sons both of which would spend time with Walter (and his wife Olga) during the summers. They always recall Walter watching The People's Court on T.V. never understanding why. However, now it is very clear.
Walter, like so many others, sacrificed to serve his county. We know Walter, (and now Olga) is looking down with a twinkle in his eye watching his son Tim, and grandson Ryan, practice law the way he wish you could have. And Tim and Ryan, and their families, are looking up at Walter remembering him today and all that he did for the family and the country.
To remember Walter today, we will be enjoying a donut in his honor. Walter always bought donuts for his children and grandchildren on special days so we thought we'd enjoy one in his memory on this special day.
