Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction that typically comes on quickly and may cause death. This medical emergency requires immediate treatment and then follow-up care by an allergist / immunologist. Many people may not realize they have an allergy until they experience anaphylaxis. An allergist can examine you and make a proper diagnosis. If warranted, your doctor will prescribe injectable epinephrine to use in an emergency.

We are grateful to Senators Durbin and Duckworth for introducing the Protecting Children with Food Allergies Act today.

The bill will require food allergy training for all food service personnel who participate in federal food assistance programs under the Child Nutrition Act like the National School Lunch Program. It will also encourage food allergy inclusivity for the WIC program and provide educational materials on food allergies to WIC eligible individuals.
