Cleaning a flame sensor is an important maintenance task that can help ensure the safe and efficient operation of a gas furnace. Here are the steps you can follow to clean a flame sensor:

Turn off the power to the furnace.

Locate the flame sensor, which is usually a small metal rod that is located near the burner assembly.

Use a soft cloth or a fine-grit sandpaper to gently clean the surface of the flame sensor. Be careful not to bend or damage the sensor.

If the sensor is particularly dirty or corroded, you can use a small amount of steel wool to gently scrub the surface. Be sure to remove any loose debris or residue.

Once you have cleaned the sensor, use a soft, dry cloth to wipe away any remaining debris or residue.

Turn the power back on to the furnace and test the unit to make sure it is working properly.

It's important to note that if you're not comfortable performing this task, or if you're unsure of how to do it safely, it's best to contact a professional HVAC technician to do it for you.

Indoor air pollution refers to the presence of harmful pollutants in the air within a building, such as a home or workplace. These pollutants can include gases, particles, and biological agents that can have negative effects on human health.

Sources of indoor air pollution can include outdoor air pollution that enters the building, as well as indoor sources such as combustion appliances, building materials, cleaning products, and to***co smoke. Poor ventilation can also contribute to indoor air pollution by trapping pollutants inside the building.

Exposure to indoor air pollution can cause a range of health effects, from minor irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat, to more serious respiratory and cardiovascular problems. Long-term exposure to indoor air pollution has been linked to an increased risk of lung cancer, stroke, and heart disease.

There are several signs that your furnace may need to be repaired. Here are a few common indicators:

Strange noises: If you hear rattling, banging, or screeching noises coming from your furnace, it could be a sign that there is a problem.

Poor performance: If your furnace isn't producing enough heat, or if it takes a long time to warm up your home, there could be an issue with the system.

High energy bills: If your energy bills have suddenly spiked, it could be a sign that your furnace is not operating efficiently, which could be due to a malfunction or damage.

Unpleasant odors: If you smell strange or unpleasant odors coming from your furnace, it could be a sign that the system needs to be repaired.

Pilot light issues: If the pilot light is frequently going out or is a different color than usual, this could indicate a problem with your furnace.

Air cannot circulate properly through the system when the furnace filter is dirty. Your equipment will work harder to move air, stressing the system. This can cause breakdowns and overheating. Remember to change out your filter to keep your equipment running smoothly!

Dry winter air has a tendency to dry out your skin, leading to chapped lips, nose and throat irritation, and dry, itchy skin.

By increasing the moisture content in the air, though, a central humidifier is able to eliminate the potential for these issues.

Is your heating unit keeping up with the cold this winter? Here are some tips to help get your system ready for the season:

1. Unblock your vents
Make sure there is no furniture covering your vents

2. Check your air filter
Make sure you replace your air filter regularly (about every one to two months)
Dirty air filters can restrict air flow and put more of a strain on your heating system

3. Schedule a furnace tune-up
Schedule a professional furnace tune-up to make sure your heating system is ready for the season
Regular tune-ups can increase the lifespan of your system

4. Inspect your thermostat
Make sure your thermostat is functioning properly and turning on your furnace at certain temperatures

5. Fix drafts around doors and windows
Drafts near windows or doors can cause your heating system to overwork and can increase your energy bill as a result

6. Pay attention to your heating system’s age
Your furnace will lose efficiency as years progress resulting in a higher energy bill
The average furnace lasts about 12-15 years if maintained properly
