The Gen House Garden
The Gen House Garden was established in 2016 by the Henry Family.
The 2024 Gen House Garden is mostly planted. We still need to add some yellow zucchini and another zucchini bed. Tomatoes will go in probably closer to May. Dahlias and Gladiolas are planted! Still have to round out some of the planter boxes as it warms up. Looking forward to a great growing year!
Winter vibes in the garden…
May 15, 2023 Garden coming along!
Got most of the 2023 Gen House Garden planted. Mom and I planted over 130 bulbs. A mix of dahlias, gladiolus, and other bulb type flowers. Lettuce, Kale, and some zucchini. There will still be more to plant as it warms up. The chickens did their work eating the w**d in the chicken run. It was a beautiful day to work in the garden!
It’s almost time….
Time for the trees in the garden to get a major haircut! No leave this years! The garden will be nice and sunny!
Spent the afternoon cleaning and prepping the garden beds. Spring is a comin’!

Scenes from the Gen House Garden 2021. Thanks to Melanie D. Brenyas, Travis Rhoden and Jonathan Henry for helping get the back pathway behind the garden done. It took a couple a weeks, but it’s done now and it looks great. Add the last of the flowers and now we watch it grow and enjoy it! My oasis is complete!
My Saturday project...
Mom and I went to a local garden shop last week and bought some flowers for the garden. I saw this cute little stand in their garden shop and they wanted $75! I thought... I have lots of old wood from the deck we demolished last summer, I will just use some of that! I built my own for free! Had all the supplies I needed to build it on hand! I love to create something out of nothing other than the idea wasn’t mine. I am happy with it! And free is good!
Gen House Garden 4/28/21
Added the last of the veggies. I usually get all my veggie starts at Joe’s Garden. But while up at Vanwingerden Gardens today I found some Zucchini plants that are quite a bit further along than just starts, so I got them. Hopefully they will be as good. Got some more flowers and moved some plants around to make room for more.
I got some good ideas for making my own decorative plant stand without having to pay a ridiculous amount for them. I will make a couple of those later this week.
I love this time of year where everything starts to grow and soon it will time to have our first harvest!
Meet my new friend JD! He will be helping a lot around the Gen House Garden and yard! So happy to go green!
Working on adding a gravel pathway all around the outside of the garden. This will keep the berry bushes from coming inside the garden as well as provide a nice path for the deer to observed the yummy plants and veggies that they cannot get to!
2021 Gen House Garden 3/30/21
Lots of work the past 2 days! Added poultry wire all the way around the entire lower base of the garden to ward off rabbits mostly. Put in a rat/mouse killer in the strawberry bed where we think they had something to do with our lack of strawberries last year.
We took out all the old strawberries and planted new ones from Joe’s Garden. We added a cover to hold in the heat and also a soaker hose. Also added some pretty rubber stepping “stones” and some new glass pieces in some of the beds.
Coming soon too the 2021 Gen House Garden...stay tuned...
