Nice work, YSO Student Chapter 🥳🤩

STEM outreach became one of the core activities of the YSO Student Chapter!
On the 20th of October, the members of the YSO Student Chapter and ԵՊՀ Ֆիզիկայի Ֆակուլտետի ՈՒԳԸ, accompanying Prof. Rafik Hakobyan - the chapter's advisor and the dean of the ԵՊՀ Ֆիզիկայի ֆակուլտետ/YSU, Faculty of Physics, visited 3 schools in Gyumri, Shirak region of Armenia and had meetings with middle and high school students, their teachers discussing the important role of science end technologies in our lives and for a better, safer country. Moreover, Prof. Hakobyan talked about new programs thought at the Faculty of Physics, encouraging students to join the faculty.
💡🧲🔬🌈In the end, the chapter's members demonstrated experiments with polarizers and fibres, diffraction gratings and lasers, Tesla's coil and Sterling's motor.
It is always motivating to receive questions and see curiosity in the eyes of school students who come to listen and follow us.

The whole YSO Student Chapter thanks its active members Լևոն Դավթյան and Edvard Grigoryan for their endless efforts in promoting science and, especially, optics to school teachers, students and public audiences. Our STEM community becomes stronger thanks to such volunteers!

Stay tuned to see our next stop in the scientific journey!

Optical tools for measuring blood oxygenation 08/31/2022

Excellent first first-author article by Student Member Michaela Taylor-Williams at University of Cambridge: “Noninvasive hemoglobin sensing and imaging: optical tools for disease diagnosis” in the current issue of .

Based on the absorption of light by hemoglobin, optical tools make it possible to detect blood oxygenation and flow. The is a well-known example.

Beyond pulse oximetry, many newer optical technologies are emerging to detect hemoglobin-based biomarkers and facilitate real-time care for a wide range of debilitating illnesses.

As researchers, our desire for complete objectivity leads us to ignore social issues and consequently erase people with marginalized identities.
