The way back machine…. The Tulip salmon seining in Boundary Bay 1938. Photo by Bert Huntoon. These deckhands must have had arms of steel from hand hauling that net back on board!

So I was walking along the trail with my camera set for two second exposures. About one and every 100 images is worth featuring. Enjoy this moment of intentional camera movement.
It’s pretty amazing that you can create images from just typing in a description of what needs to be illustrated. It does take on a creative approach with regards to personal taste and decision making. Using the tools provided really help control end results. With some fancy technical work, very acceptable prints can be made as large as 40 x 60. 😍
Some recent backcountry eye candy!! Definitely worth a shot!
"Performers In An Island Theater" is one of my favorite images of Madrona trees from the San Juan Islands. It was captured about 30 years ago. Since then, time has taken its toll on this stately and beautiful example. https://www.markbergsma.com/warehouse/art_print_products/performers-in-an-island-theater?product_gallery=30075&product_id=2078090

Introducing a favorite of mine. 😍 "Monday, Monday" seemed like a great title for this foggy and moody image. I can faintly hear the Mamas And The Papas singing that iconic hit from the 60’s. - https://mailchi.mp/a582372233ff/monday-monday-seemed-like-a-great-title-for-this-foggy-and-moody-image-i-can-faintly-hear-the-mamas-and-the-papas-singing
Just from a recent hike! Almost 3000 vertical feet and 12 miles! My feet took the punishment well!
Some Summer Magic! On the boat again in the San Juan Islands brings a gigantic smile to Bev’s face❤️😍!
“Heartbeats Of The Pacific” ~ In 1980 I made a life-changing choice to become a photographer. I was starting from ground zero. Suddenly, I realized I knew very little. My life seemingly became an experiment. Alchemy, test tubes, white coats, and safety glasses drifted into and out of the dreamlike runway to my future. I have been actively pursuing artful photographic images since 1980. My over-active ego began to believe I could be the next Ansel Adams (of course, this never came to be). In the summer of 1987, I was on a coastal trip with another photographer friend. He introduced me to Shi-Shi Beach, Rialto Beach, 2nd Beach, and Ruby Beach. The sounds of the surf were enrichingly soothing. During many treasured moments on this tour, I never realized how grounding they were until I returned to Bellingham. I printed some contact sheets of my efforts at 2nd Beach. I mysteriously felt different and connected with my work. I had captured “Heartbeats Of The Pacific.” My confidence was beginning to feel renewed.

Tropical abstract for the FIRST day of Summer. It’s warm even in the shade! ❤️❤️❤️
I captured over 600 images for just this ONE Northern Lights image. Some newly released richly toned Black and White work is included. - https://mailchi.mp/48e73ebe2040/northern-lights-and-other-new-releases
Stepping into the way back machine! Bev and I visited Martha's Vineyard to see our friend Carol Beecher in September 2013. We had a great time there and even visited John Belushi's grave site. Lucy Vincent's beach and the Edgartown Lighthouse were great places to pause. I have to say that the ambiance there was similar to being in the San Juan Islands. It's a beautiful place.
During A winter snowshoe climb to Huntoon Peak and Artist Point I captured some eye candy for my website. The feeling of vastness comes to mind in this image. Help me decide whether color or Black and White is the best… Opinion??
38 years ago on this day we officially tied a knot with fond “I Do’s” on a boat call the Skua in Chuckanut Bay! We think that from that loving day boating would be a big part our future, and it truly has been an awesome adventure with an abundance of fun and love. We have been boating in the San Juan Islands for 35 of those years. We were actually going to go out this weekend for our anniversary, but the rain told us to stay home. Love you so much Beav.
Dipping into my AI brushes... The first image was created from the "original" photograph (second image).

Fine Art Photography
It is hard for me to believe that I have creating Fine Art Photography for over 40 years here in the Pacific Northwest. So many changes from the beginning in 1978 when film was your only choice. Along with my wife Bev, we have operated 2 different gallery spaces here in Bellingham. One was in downtown Bellingham. The Mark Bergsm Gallery at Bellwether on the Bay was open for 9 years. It was closed in September of 2008 so I could pursue some creative directions. A digital retouching venture called Beyond Capture IMAGING was born. At that time I was doing a ton of work for a business called Ledalite in Vancouver BC. They became a subsidiary of Phillips Lighting eventually. Toohouse, a digital marketing agency in Bellingham, had me retouching images for Intuit also.
In 2010 I pursued a pathway involved in color grading of film and video. I had dreams of being involved in full length feature films as a colorist. I learned video editing and color grading techniques using Final Cut Pro. I interviewed for positions in Vancouver and Seattle. What I learned is that to work in that fast pace environment one needed to immerse himself in big city life. “Be where the action is” was a sort of mantra in pursuit of that dream. It would have been necessary for me to move into urban life in a large city. My heart remained attach to life here in Bellingham. I returned to creating and marketing fine art photography. On October 5 - 13, 2018 I will be at Bellingham Frameworks for a 40 year retrospective of some of my vintage work and several pieces from my contemporary collection. For over 10 years, since the gallery closure, I have had hundreds of chromogenic color prints stored in boxes. It was time for me to bring them to market. I may even feature some of my new creative diversions in my photographic path.
