The Bellmore fire commissioners provided an update on the department’s still-under-construction training and maintenance facility on Royle Street.
This morning at 10:40 the Bellmore Fire Department responded to an ‘auto-accident, car into a building’ at Town Bagel. Upon arrival, 600-02, Chief Brandon Conway found a single car had hit the storefront, left of the door. The knee-wall was damaged but the glass remained intact. The driver of the auto and patrons inside were uninjured.
Bagel service was not interupted as BFD members assessed for structural damaged and secured the scene for the TOH Buildings Department.
We are ever vigilant.
It is our duty and pleasure to spread the word about fire safety to our community.

Along with Long Island Volunteer departments responding to the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, this is one of our finest moments. Bellmore Engine 602 and volunteer crew spent several days out on Sunrise Highway in the Hamptons. They saw many hours of action and even watched as the wall of flames completely jumped over the engine, and them and landed on the south side of Sunrise Hwy.

.The Bellmore FD bids farewell to a friend and brother, JC Cotter, Shield #78.
Rest in Peace, JC.
The Bellmore FD is saddened to announce the passing of 37 year member, John (JC) Cotter. JC was known as the ever approachable and friendly guy who was always willing to lend a hand and help whoever he could. He took his responsibilities as Safety Officer seriously, as he truly cared about his fellow Bellmore members.
JC was indispensable as a chauffeur of the ambulances, especially for weekday rescue calls. He was also known for driving the department bus, 6022, ensuring members were transported safely to wherever they a had to go.
In September of 2005, JC along with Ken Lyden, drove a box truck loaded with donations from the people of Bellmore down to New Orleans as part of the relief effort after Hurricane Katrina.
JC was a very active member of the Bellmore Exempts, our benevolent association. He was extremely involved with the restoration and maintenance of our of the Exempts antique, hand pulled pumper and participated in many antique musters and parades.
JC retired after a long career with the MTA/LIRR as a maintainer. He was also a member of the Long Island Corvette Association (LICA) and could often be seen driving around town in his prized corvette.
JC is survived by his wife of 44 years, Denise, a life member of the Bellmore FD Ladies Auxiliary, his two daughters, Jennifer and Jacquelynn and 6 grandchildren (Alex, Adriana and Nicholas, Christopher, Steven and Michael).
His daughter Jacquelynn followed her father’s footsteps and is an ex-captain in the Bellmore FD. His grandson, Michael Taylor is an active-duty Marine, as well as a Bellmore firefighter. Steven is a firefighter/medic in Naples, Fla.
JC’s presence will be missed but he has left a legacy of good will, generosity of spirit and loving brotherhood to all those priviledged enough to know him.
