Update on baby Beau!!! I have been going out twice a week since surgery and we have
Made a ton of improvement! Spent some time with him today grooming him in the sun and making him look handsome. He is starting to come out of his shell and starting to show some personality. We still have a long road ahead but he is healing great so far!

Every one meet Beauregard. This is one lucky horse to have found Hasty’s Haven to help him. I called Joann yesterday and sent her the Facebook post and she immediately jumped into action as she always does to help him. This poor horse has had Barbwire in his foot for who knows how long. He is the sweetest most respectful gelding about his foot never offering to kick or be bad. We successfully removed the larger piece of wire and debrided the wound today. I so glad he didn’t get run through another auction. Please consider donating to help with his continued care!

We had a long but great 9 hr day with Dr Kate as we get our horses ready to head to WEC in a few weeks.

Most of you know Hasty’s Haven holds a special place in my heart! I love all the work we are able to do together! Also Clearview Animal Hospital is my go to for small animal! Help support a great cause! This is amazing!!

Cold Nights Advisory

Let's talk about colic prevention during cold weather. If you are feeding grain, it's a great idea to soak it and possibly top dress with electrolytes or table salt.

Make sure your horses have plenty water and a salt lick or loose salt.

So excited to post about our 2023 Retired Racehorse Project Thoroughbred Makeover broodmare (mom to 4), Summer Chant, ridden and shown by our amazing and empathetic working student, Rebecca Jones.

What a lovely and generous mare. Adopted from Second Stride, Inc. in the middle of July and with less than 90 days to prep for the RRP this classy mare did not disappoint! Her bloodlines are riddled with million dollar runners and her Great Grand dam was the 2004 KY broodmare of the year. Chantilly, as we call her, is a laid back mare who is always willing to try. We entered into the Broodmare Division (which we are totally in awe of) in Dressage and this special mare placed third! The good ones just always make you so grateful!

Our little Charlie doesn’t get much attention around here. We rescued her along with a baby donk from a local auction last year. She came in very sick with over grown curved hooves and walked on her ankles. I’m happy to say this old girl (30+) is doing well, her little legs have straightened and her hooves are almost normal thanks to our amazing farrier Brian Simmons. For a while there we couldn’t get her stomach right and she suffered from massive diarrhea, thanks to our badass vet Dr. Kate DVM that also is no longer an issue. Charlie is the little mascot around the farm and pretty much does what she wants! Her favorite pals are Maple, Hazel and Gold. Her stall mate is Teeter and well…they just tolerate each other 😂

Farrier day is next week and sweet Charlie would love a sponsor ($40). 😊

Congrats!!! We are so excited!

Today was a hard day as a veterinarian. We said good by to a horse who was so loved his entire life and he was let go in the kindest of ways. A beautiful place of resting surrounded by the ones who loved him and cherished every minute with him. As Dr. Seuss said “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”
To a baby who was failed by humans, put on a trailer for 24 hour with a broken septic elbow. She laid down for us to work on her and was such a broken sole it was hard to see.
Give your horses and extra hug and a kiss tomorrow. Sometimes we forget how lucky we are to have them in our lives.

This picture means so much to me. This job is hard some days and as they say it takes a village. We are all in this together and all we can do is help each other, be there for each other, support each other and give each other a shoulder to cry on. Horses bring all of us together and we are all stronger for it. We said good bye to a great one today but one that has touched many hearts. Together anything is possible! I am beyond blessed for my friends, clients, family and the horses. I don’t know what we would do with out them. Rest easy old friend.

Case of the week Answer!!!

Infected and a Fractured tooth! Many tooth roots go into the sinus, older horses a lot of time don’t stop eating. It is so important to have your horses teeth checked frequently!

We removed them and she is all healed and doing great!

Everyone meet Foxy! She is the sweetest little dog and needs a home! She had her eye removed today and is on the mend. She sat and snuggled with me this afternoon after we were done with surgery.

Owner noticed this sweet girl had a little swelling on her face for about a day or two and then it started draining. She never stoped eating and her weight is good!

Today was an emotional and physical roller coaster. We were able to remove 38 horses from a starvation situation. I am so thankful for all the rescues that came out today and helped these babies and are going rehab them back to health.
