Have you felt the shift? Late summer is upon us, marked by muggy weather and afternoon thunderstorms. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, late summer is one of the five major seasons, connected to the nurturing Earth element. This season which starts mid-August and lasts until the Fall Equinox, is a powerful time for self nurturing and transformation, as nature prepares for the harvest. During late summer, the Stomach and Spleen are energetically active, influencing digestion and overall well-being. When these organs are in harmony, you will experience better digestion and energy. Imbalances can lead to nausea, bloating, weight gain or fatigue. Just as Earth sustains all life, a balanced digestive system supports both physical and emotional health, laying the foundation for lifelong wellness. Come in for a seasonal tune-up so you can transition into the Fall with ease.
Happy summer! Through the lens of Chinese Medicine, we’ve entered the season of the heart❤️. During summer we may feel more energized, so try waking up earlier and going to bed later, and take a break at the height of the heat of the day. Socialize with people who bring you joy, make time to play, experience life and go on an adventure or two, but be sure to balance it with plenty of water, downtime and self care-acupuncture anyone!? Melissa will be out of the office beginning Monday,7/1 and she will resume seeing folks on Tuesday, 7/16. She still has availability this week for seasonal tune-ups and mid afternoon acupuncture naps! TheTreeOfLifeAcupuncture.com

May you cradle your inner child and give them whatever they’re lacking. May you find peace in the present moment. I am sending you all so much love. Happy mothering day to you💐

Happy Lunar New Year! We are bidding farewell to the year of the yin water rabbit, and we are entering into the year of the yang wood dragon. The dragon stands apart in the Chinese zodiac cycle, not just because of its mythical nature but also due to the profound significance it holds. The dragon is a creature of legend, which elevates it's status, making it a symbol of immense power, authorty and wisdom. Expect it to be a big year. The dragon is often seen as a harbinger of transformation. Old patterns will be challenged and new paths will certainly emerge. The dragon represents power, strength, wisdom, creativity, and good fortune. The wood element adds an extra layer of growth and movement to this year. Wood dragons are resourceful and resilient. Their imagination knows no bounds and they thrive when they are able to express themselves in a creative manner.
Accelerated changes to the environment are likely to occur on a grander scale during a dragon year.
While this year is a very yang year, it also is the beginning of a 20 year shift in the zodiac cycle towards a more yin or feminine epoch. Known as Period 9 in Feng Shui, this new era of fire is associated with the heart, the inner light, the middle sister- which translates to the middle aged woman. Period 9 is often associated with passion, warmth, enthusiasm, introspection and receptivity.
We can expect to see more women taking leadership roles within their communities and professionally. There will be a departure from the patriarchal way of thinking.
Finding your inner joy and practicing rituals that include movement and artistic expression will benefit you. Eat leafy greens and sour foods. Expect emotions to surface and deal with them as they arise. Cultivate meaningful relationships. Be a beacon of light for those who could benefit from what you have to offer. Be in circle with other women. 🤍
There is always a little yin within the yang, they are mutually interdependent.
Take advantage of the big opportunities for growth, abundance, and rebirth that the dragon year brings. Meanwhile, shine your light, dance in the moonlight and enjoy the ride.
I love water. I certainly love walking near it and taking dips in it!
Why Walk Along Water? | Weekly Bulletins | Andrew Weil, M.D. Looking to boost your mood? Researchers in Spain found an effective and appealing strategy. They recorded improvements in the well-being of adults who took short walks on the beach or alongside lakes, rivers or even around fountains. How did these water walks compare to strolls elsewhere? This time-lapse video proves maternity leave is not a ‘vacation’—it’s essential The reality of maternity leave video shows the incredibly hard and demanding role of a mother who is on leave but never off the clock.
So simple, but so true.
I have found all of these supplements to be helpful for those dealing with PCOS. I also believe acupuncture, nutrition and stress management are important components to add into the treatment of PCOS.
I thought of these words from again as we gear up to begin Crushing Codependency on April 6th. Truths unspoken to avoid external chaos become truths stored within our bodies causing internal chaos.
.
But yet, even knowing the cost of silence, which our personal and collective history has in abundance, we hold our unspoken words inside our hearts as they inflame our bodies. Why? Because when self-expression threatens belonging, belonging wins... until it doesn't. Until the cost of belonging becomes so heavy with self-abandonment that our either our health or our integrity (or both) invites us to scream from the rooftops in an act of both rebellion and reclamation.
.
One of the most powerful forms of revolution is to speak the words you hold heavy in your throat. It's to give birth to your voice at the cost of being loved by another, so that you can love yourself.
.
Your freedom lies in you freeing yourself. Your liberation comes when you liberate your words, your truth and your authentic self. Stop pretending to be okay with sh*t you're not okay with. Stop pretending to like sh*t you don't like. Stop pretending to want what someone else wants. Stop lowering the standard for your relationships to accommodate someone else's lower standards. Stop lowering the bar so others can meet it. Stop storing words in your body that those around you and the world needs to hear so it can know how to change too.

Happy Spring Equinox!
Nature has a pattern, a flow and rhythm; when the season changes it's an opportunity to observe her movements, her shifting. It’s an invitation to tune in.
Spring is one of the most glorious and joyful moments to be present with. It’s a time of deep creativity and inspiration. Oh, the possibilities! It’s a time of bursting energy, planting seeds and setting your sights on the path ahead.
Eat more plants, drink more tea and enjoy the bounty of spring!
Happy Equinox, sweet herbal friends. 💚

COMPASSION AND PEACE
When we feel the great suffering of the Ukrainian people, we are feeling the great suffering in us. The cause of the suffering is also in us. If we do not recognize in ourselves what the invasion of Ukraine is showing us, we will not be able to change our suffering and its cause. We invade one another each time we judge and put our needs above the needs of others. Each judgment of ours is an invasion against another person. We are the invaders. Each judgment of us by another person is also an invasion. We are the invaded. The invasion of one country by another country shows us the same thing. Invaders and invaded, invaded and invaders. Suffering is everywhere. When we see that we are both the invaders and the invaded, our hearts soften. This is the birth of compassion. Then we can work to stop suffering in the world without creating more of it. This is the birth of peace. Gary Zukav

As Black History Month approaches us, ACNM would like to celebrate and honor the contributions of Black midwives in the United States. If you'd like to tell your story about Black excellence throughout the midwifery community, we encourage you submit an article to ACNM Quickening, our official digital news site! This will help us all to take some time to reflect on the essential, often unrecognized, role Black midwives play in communities and cities throughout the country – not just one month a year, but every day.
