Tinsel and confetti strings are no joke and huge temptations for our pets – especially cats. Ingesting tinsel or ribbon can not only lead to stomach upset, but it can get wrapped around their intestines causing major health problems – some of which may require surgical intervention.

You may need to get crafty to keep these holiday knickknacks out of your pet’s reach but doing so will keep them out of harm's way.

Holiday ornaments can be magical. But those with pets know those trinkets can get tricky. If your holiday tree is not secured properly, a dog or especially a curious cat can knock it over causing chaos. Bulbs and ornaments – especially those made of glass – can break easily and scatter everywhere, making themselves a home in your pet’s tender paw pads.

Make sure holiday trees and ornaments of all kinds are secured and out of your pet’s reach. Then your holidays can be happy and cat-tastophe-free!

12/08/2022

Holiday candles or menorahs can be mesmerizing for pets. But all too often, those festive flames can lead to unhappy accidents.

All open-flame objects should be kept far out of your pet’s reach. And never underestimate the athleticism of cats. No boo-boo burns and no burning anything down!

12/02/2022

Nothing is more tempting than slipping your pet some holiday treats from the table. Remember that people food can upset your pet’s stomach and some foods can even cause major illness or death. Meat bones can splinter and cause internal damage, and it’s best to keep fatty foods like turkey, ham, and creamy mashed potatoes down to a minimum.

Totally avoid onions, onion powder, grapes, raisins, and chocolate, as they can be toxic. The best rules of thumb are to keep people food for people, share in moderation, and if in doubt, leave it out!

11/18/2022

It’s Senior Pet Awareness Month! It’s crazy but for cats and certain dog breeds, seven years old and up is considered a senior – no matter how young they look and act.

Call us and let’s set up the perfect healthcare regimen for your pet. Book a senior pet appointment today.
