$10,000 MATCHING CHALLENGE

Having a supportive, sober environment and time to focus on growth can be absolutely transformational for those recovering from addiction. Especially in today’s housing market, many of the 570 men and women exiting treatment quarterly have little choice but to return to living arrangements that challenge their sobriety. We are SO close to being able to develop 2 recovery residences to provide men and women in the Bennington area with the supports they need to THRIVE. In Vermont there are currently NO other recovery residences south of Rutland, though we know they are so effective at supporting families and addressing addiction in a wholistic and lasting way.

We’re excited and grateful to announce that Orion Howard & Teresa Sholes have pledged a DOLLAR-FOR-DOLLAR match of up to $10,000 through July 31st to help us make this happen! Please help us DOUBLE the impact of Orion and Teresa’s generosity to build much-needed recovery housing in southern Vermont: fundrazr.com/match-BFR.

Gifts of all sizes are welcome and are valued. Thank you for your help and support!!

Orchard Village Residents ⚠️

UPDATE - ORCHARD ROAD AREA
This water main break has now also been isolated. This has been determined to be a private issue and will now only effect residents within the Applegate Housing Complex as a private contractor makes those repairs. All surrounding areas should have service already restored. Please run the cold water for a few moments to flush out any air that may have entered the system during the disruption.

Owens: Lack of affordable housing 05/24/2022

A great article written by Nancy Owens, co-president of our housing partner, Evernorth 👏

"There’s a lot of dissatisfaction with the way things are in our communities right now. We are dreaming of a better future together, and we need to embrace some change to actually build that future. Will we continue to just let things happen as the market drives it, or will we shape the place we want to live?"

This is a new concept for Bennington (there are still ZERO Recovery Residences south of Rutland ‼️) though not to health care and recovery professionals. If "Recovery Residence" just sounds like a fancy buzzword to you, keep reading 👇👇👇

Recovery Residences (RRs) are homes dedicated to supporting individuals to live independently in the early stages of their recovery from any type of Substance Use Disorder (SUD).

RRs support adults of all ages, but they typically house men, women, and women with dependent children separately.

Residents pay something for their housing and commit to not using alcohol or illicit drugs during their tenure. RRs may or may not limit the duration of occupancy, but most stays range between 5 and 12 months. Residents typically sign contracts rather than leases, affording the sponsoring entity greater capacity to, among other things, remove individuals who do not abide by the terms of the agreement.

The RR model is predicated on supported, peer-based accountability. It leverages the common intention of residents to overcome their addiction and reassemble their lives. This philosophy promotes norms that reinforce healthy living skills and associated values, attitudes, and connections for sustaining recovery. Some, though not all, include live-in “house managers” for residential supervision to support the group life and recovery process of residents.
