Due to the possibility of rain tomorrow morning... The Benson Memorial Day Program will be held at the High School PAC.

Time is still 10AM, the High School Doors will be open at 9:30.

Vets Day on the Hill ( 2024 ) A Great Turnout from the 5th District.
Benson, Willmar, Montevideo, Osakis and Starbuck were represented. Thanks to the DAV , Willmar VFW, and Willmar Veterans Council for the bus ride and meal. Howard Lake American Legion gave us a great meal, and great service, Thanks Much.

Congratulation to District 5 VOD winner Kendra Wilmes, she was a runner up at Department level competition. She will be giving her VOD speech at the next District meeting, April 14th in Osakis.
I would like to thank the Starbuck Post for there continuing sponsorship for the VOD program.

A learning experience for these youngsters, an a lesson for the rest of us on what Memorial Day is really about.

The Benson VFW Honor Guard was honored to be able to be a part Of Deputy Josh Owens burial service at the Glenwood Cemetery on Saturday.

Minnesota lost another hero who selflessly protected his community and gave his life in service to others. Last night, Deputy Owen was shot and killed during a domestic call. Deputy Owen leaves behind a loving wife, son, and family.

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we mourn the ultimate sacrifice of a hero deputy from the Pope County Sheriff’s Office. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, colleagues, and community as they grieve. We wish them comfort and strength to endure this unthinkable time.

To the Pope County MN Sheriff's Office please know that we are here for you. We are here to support you, to grieve with you, and to honor the memory of your Fallen.

Please pray for his family, friends, and partners.

Also the Veterans Day Supper will be on Veterans Day, Nov 11th at Track Bar and Grille. Social Hour at 5 pm, Supper at 6 PM.

Thursday May 26th at 7 PM. Tribute to Veterans at the Swift County Historical society. Flag Pole Dedication prior to the program.

Friday 3 PM at the Benson City Cemetery. Post members and grandchildren will be placing flags on the Veterans Graves.

Monday , May 30th, (Memorial Day) Memorial Day program at the Benson City Cemetery.

Congratulations to the following students for participating in the VFW Auxiliary Illustrating America art contest for grades 6-8. Left to right: Tony Turner-participant, Brooke Hoberg- third place, received $15, Keela Carroll- first place, received $40 and her art was sent on to the Region, Addison Ptasnik- second place, received $25, and Scarlett Tolifson- participant. Great job!

2021 Patriot Pen Essay Winner, Congratulations !

JH History teacher, Barb Schwarz, presented Bree Ollendick with a check of $50 for her first place finish in the VFW Patriot’s Pen Essay contest. This years theme was “How Can I Be A Good American?” Congratulations Bree!

A great program this year, interesting if you've never seen it.

2021 Veteran's Day Program

High School and Grade School Programs we participated in on Veterans Day 2021

This coming Thursday, Novenber 11th, Veterans Day, The Post will be sponsoring a free meal for all Veterans and their significant partners. It will be held at Track Bar and Grille (The former VFW) at 5PM Social Hour, 6PM Supper.

2022 Raffle Calendars are available, the profits from the calendars help Veterans throughout the state, as well as our local post 1403.

Memorial Day Service at the Benson City Cemetery. 10AM Monday May 31st.
Service only this year, No Parade.
In the event of bad weather it will be held in the New Performing Arts Center.

Flags will be placed on graves at the area cemeteries on Friday, May 28th.
