The Black Cultural Center would like to wish everyone a Happy Black History Month! This year’s national theme is African Americans and the Arts. This year focuses on the fusion of African, Caribbean, and the Black American lived experiences! Today, we began the month with a fitting convocation from a literary artist, Evette Dionne. Evette brought to light the various Black women who were warriors in the fight for the right to vote in the United States. Berea College is no stranger to trailblazing new paths. Light bearers such as Dr. Carter G. Woodson serves as a reminder that our beloved college is directly tied to Black History. Just last year we celebrated becoming the FIRST college or university in the state of Kentucky to install a natural hair care and beauty machine!
Join us this month as we celebrate the vibrant canvas of the Black experience at Berea College through expressions of love, fashion, amplifying of Black voices, networking, and practices of Sankofa (to go back and get it). First up...We are happy to announce that our Berea College Black Male Leadership Initiative will have representation at The University of Kentucky’s Men of Color Symposium this Friday hosted by The Martin Luther King Center. Throughout the month we will bring your attention to events, programs, and resources sponsored or co-sponsored by the BCC! February is the shortest month but full of events and opportunities for engagement. However, please remember to practice self-care because rest is Revolutionary! Our Black Cultural Center staff and Junior Colleagues would like to encourage you to put Wellness Wednesdays at 1pm on your calendar for a quick 10-minute meditation in our center led by our Assistant Director of Specialized Services, Mr. Joel Wilson!
Happy Monday yall! Let’s start the Monday off right with our .
