How can we help you?
We celebrate all births at Dellwood Farms! These piglets are only a few hours old and they have a LONG way to go. (A lot can happen in the early days of a piglet). However, we’re very thankful and blessed to have these 9 new editions to the farm.
We’ll probably sell most if not all of these to someone else to grow out once they are weaned. If you’d like a quarter, half or whole pig to fill your freezer, shoot us a message! We’ll work with you through the process! We have all cuts and all sizes of pork available.
Recipes by Dellwood Farms!
The picture below is of one of our pork butts and the process that made it a fantastic fall off the bone meal. This one weighed in at 11 pounds. You DO NOT have to have a fancy smoker or grill to make delicious pulled pork sandwiches! We started by covering this one with the following:
We used mustard as our binder, you don’t taste the mustard, it just holds it all together. Cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper flakes, salt, pepper and paprika.
We then cooked it low and slow in a roaster oven (you can use a traditional oven or grill if you prefer) on 300 for 8 hours.
Add your favorite bbq sauce and you’re done!
Our pork butts are $4.00 per pound and usually weigh between 8 and 10 pounds. You can easily cut them into two or three smaller portions if you’d like. If you want one for your next get together, let us know!
This is a great deal! Let us help fill your freezer!
What’s on your menu for Derby Day? We’ll be having pulled pork here. Grill or smoke these pork butts low and slow and they’ll shred with no effort at all.
Would you like some for Derby Day or any other event? These are $4.00 per pound. They come two butts per package and typically weigh 15-20 per pack. Let us know if you’d like this or anything else!
The weather has us feeling all the spring things! Let us know how we can help you with all you grilling needs!
Long (but informative) post warning!
Lard is better for you than vegetable oils. I said what I said. I’m not here for a debate though, do research and decide for yourself.
Most of y’all in this part of the country had people that would render pig fat into lard. Many of you remember eating some delicious homemade biscuits or pastries from grannies kitchen. What do think her special ingredient was? Probably homemade lard.
Lard is made from leaf fat. Leaf fat is a very delicate fat from around the kidneys. When you render down leaf fat, it doesn’t have the “pork” flavor that you would associate with bacon grease. There is very little left over from rendering leaf fat, but the tiny cracklings you’re left with are like gold. Great on a salad, cooked with beans or even baked in corn bread!
Rendering lard doesn’t have to be scary. It’s easy enough that I would be happy to give you instructions or you can be taught by a quick YouTube search. Just be patient and cook the fat low and slow and you’ll be well on your way.
I said all that to say this: We have three small packs of leaf fat we’d like to sell to get folks started doing this on their own. We have two, 3lb bags and one 4lb bag. We ask $3 per pound. We’d be happy to sell these all to one person, but honestly, we’d like to see three different people get these just so more have the opportunity to learn and enjoy. If you’d like a larger quantity, we can help you out with that in the near future. (I had a 27lb of leaf fat earlier today)
So let us know if you’d like to buy one of these small bags or if you’d like us to get you some in the future. Rendering would make a perfect snow day project…..
